Telco Systems Awarded Contract Extension as the Exclusive Provider of M13 Multiplexers From Major U.S. Carrier

Business Wire, Nov 29, 2005

FOXBORO, Mass. -- Telco Systems, a provider of carrier-class transport and access solutions for public and private IP and TDM networks, today announced that a major U.S. carrier has extended Telco Systems' contract as the sole provider of DS1 to DS3/STS-1 multiplexer equipment. The contract, initially awarded in 2002, will extend an additional two years.

Telco Systems' EdgeLink100 M13, EdgeLinkSTS/T1 SONET STS-1-to-DS1 multiplexer, and EdgeLink Hub M13 Distribution Hub were chosen for use in their regional interoffice core network. With full redundancy and NEBS and OSMINE certification, Telco Systems has set the standard for a new generation of multiplexers that are compact, as well as easy to install, provision and maintain.

"We're very pleased to have earned the continued confidence of a top-tier carrier as the exclusive provider for M13 Multiplexers," said Dave Lee, vice president of marketing and services, Telco Systems. "The EdgeLink M13 solutions enable the carrier to significantly eliminate stranded bandwidth by equipping C.O. SONET ADM, DCS and switches with DS3 modules rather than DS1."

The EdgeLink Hub allows for incremental growth from a single shelf to grow services on a per-module basis, versus the traditional approach of installing additional M13 shelves. Telco Systems delivers additional DS1s from DS3 ports (up to 252 DS1s) off the carrier's core transport and switch equipment. EdgeLink Hub offers service providers significant cost savings on installation, heat and cabling management, as well as valuable C.O. rack real estate and maintenance. Designed for future growth, the EdgeLink Hub additionally allows for the aggregation of DS1s, DS3s and STS-1s to an optical SONET uplink.

"The EdgeLink100 and EdgeLinkSTS/T1 deliver up to 28 DS1s with the quality, reliability, and physical and operational support of a carrier-class product, but at price levels needed for a high-volume and cost-sensitive implementation," said Lee. "The increased bandwidth and connectivity in a compact, cost-efficient size is critical for installations in crowded metropolitan areas."

Telco Systems has added the Multi-Service EdgeLink Hub to its portfolio, which includes a new mixed services platform, providing OC-3, DS1, DS3 and STS-1 functionality in a single shelf. This addition brings carriers all the benefits of SONET, increased densities and even greater efficiencies.
