FBI Procures Excalibur™ Web Search Offering; Convera Extends Bureau Relationship
Business Wire, Nov 30, 2005
VIENNA, Va. -- Convera Corporation (NASDAQ:CNVR), a leading provider of search technologies to commercial enterprises and government agencies, today announced that the Federal Bureau of Investigation has executed an annual contract to access its Excalibur(TM) Web search technology.
Excalibur(TM) is an innovative search technology that uses millions of categories of information to understand and organize billions of pages of Web content resulting in more relevant and useful answers to search queries. Excalibur(TM) may also be customized to provide vertically focused results targeting specific professional, business or consumer-oriented needs.
"We are very pleased to announce today the extension of a long-standing relationship with the bureau," said Patrick C. Condo, Convera President and Chief Executive Officer. "Convera's ability to create new and dynamic search solutions to meet the ever increasing needs of our law enforcement and intelligence customers remains a priority. Our experience in serving this market segment is unsurpassed as our product offerings continue to be validated as a preferred choice."
The Excalibur(TM) offering has been developed to add structure to the Web through the use of proprietary taxonomies and ontologies, semantic analysis and deep knowledge resources capable of providing end-users with more relevant search results. Excalibur(TM) may be used in concert with RetrievalWare, Convera's "flagship" internal search solution, or with an organizations existing internal application to create an integrated portal offering "blended" results from both Intranet and open-source (e.g., the Internet) searches.
The FBI has previously deployed Convera's RetrievalWare(R) enterprise search solution.
Terms of the transaction were not disclosed.
