Multimedia over Coax Alliance Adds Broadband Product Vendors to Membership; Actiontec Electronics, Mototech and Netopia Join Digital Entertainment Home Networking Alliance
Business Wire, Nov 7, 2005
SAN RAMON, Calif. -- Multimedia over Coax Alliance (MoCA) announced that Actiontec Electronics, Mototech and Netopia (Pink Sheets:NTPA.PK) have become Associate Members. These home broadband product vendors join key digital entertainment service providers -- cable, satellite, and telecom, as well as leading networking equipment and consumer electronics manufacturers and retailers in support of the first home networking solution that delivers multiple streams of HD video and other digital entertainment throughout the home.
By joining MoCA, these new members gain full access to MoCA specifications and licensing for use in developing "MoCA certified" products. Only MoCA members can offer products that have been certified to interoperate with other products to seamlessly deliver HDTV and DVD quality digital entertainment and high-speed data throughout the home. The first "MoCA certified" products are expected to be announced in December.
Actiontec is dedicated to enriching consumers' lives with great connectivity solutions. Motivated by the all-digital-lifestyle vision, Actiontec's products enable broadband service providers to deliver innovative communication and entertainment experiences. "MoCA technology is a critical component of our next generation routers that are launching in Q4, 2005. In working closely with the broadband providers, we foresee a very promising future for MoCA and its capabilities," said Dave Appleman, Actiontec VP of Business Development.
Mototech is a global Original Design Manufacturer specialist in the broadband and data networking market. Mototech delivers complete broadband triple-play CPE solutions for the broadband home. Mototech offers VoIP, digital media, wireless and data networking products in a total package.

"Netopia, Mototech and Actiontec Electronics joining MoCA underscore the broad-based adoption of MoCA as the network backbone for HD video throughout the home," said Ladd Wardani, President of MoCA and Vice President of Entropic Communications. "We look forward to these new members offering 'MoCA certified' products to service providers and end users of digital entertainment."
The MoCA standard ensures the delivery of HD and DVD quality digital entertainment and high-speed data throughout the home without glitches or freezes. Moreover, as coax is already wired in more than 95 million homes in the United States, most consumers can easily implement a home network with MoCA certified products from service providers without the need for new connections, wiring, point of entry devices or truck rolls.
MoCA's Board of Directors include Comcast (NASDAQ:CMCSA) (NASDAQ:CMCSK), Cox Communications, EchoStar (NASDAQ:DISH), Entropic Communications, Linksys, a division of Cisco (NASDAQ:CSCO), Motorola (NYSE:MOT), Panasonic (NYSE:MC), Radio Shack (NYSE:RSH), Toshiba and Verizon (NYSE:VZ).
