Falcon Broadband Selects General Bandwidth for Voice over IP Deployment; Colorado-Based Integrated Communications Provider Deploys General Bandwidth G6® Universal Media Gateway Platform for VoIP Phone Services
Business Wire, Nov 9, 2005
AUSTIN, Texas -- General Bandwidth, a leading Voice over IP (VoIP) equipment manufacturer enabling rapid deployment and new service revenue generation over broadband networks, has been selected by Falcon Broadband, a fiber-to-the-premises, cable, and wireless service provider based in Colorado, to enable the launch of its SIP-based Voice over IP (VoIP) service offering.
Falcon Broadband is deploying this new service to customers over its own broadband networks as well as other broadband networks, using General Bandwidth's G6(R) Universal Media Gateway in conjunction with a SIP-based Next Generation call control platform. In addition, the G6 platform is being used concurrently to deliver Class 5-based Voice over IP (VoIP) services to Falcon Broadband's customers on their fiber-to-the-premises network. Future plans include using the G6 platform to deliver dynamic T1 VoIP services to businesses.
"In offering a complete portfolio of broadband telecommunications options for our residential and business customers, we were looking for a media gateway that was flexible enough to handle our diverse needs," stated Randy DeYoung, president of Falcon Broadband. "After considerable searching, we selected the G6 platform because of its variety of relevant applications, ability to easily scale, and impressive history of reliability."
General Bandwidth's award-winning G6 Universal Media Gateway is an open standards, circuit-to-packet platform that is deployed in a service provider's switching office, headend or Point of Presence. It enables voice communications between packet-based networks and circuit-based networks. Proven interoperable with and simultaneously supporting the leading Class 5 switches, softswitches, SIP feature servers, digital loop carriers (DLCs), and customer premises equipment (CPE), the G6 platform uniquely enables service providers to accelerate VoIP services and network migration by leveraging their existing and next generation network assets. The G6 is a true, carrier class solution that provides full redundancy and a fully integrated emergency stand-alone capability.
"We are pleased that Falcon Broadband has selected General Bandwidth to help them deliver multiple VoIP services," said Charles Vogt, president and CEO of General Bandwidth. "A growing number of integrated communications providers of all sizes are discovering that the universal media gateway features of the G6 platform provide the highest flexibility, lowest cost solution for the delivery of VoIP services to their customers."
