Inphi® Corporation's IN581AMB FBDIMM Features Industry's Smallest Size, Latency and Power Consumption; Allows OEMs to Deliver Higher Performance
Business Wire, Oct 10, 2005
WESTLAKE VILLAGE, Calif. -- Inphi Corporation:
--Fully supporting all JEDEC specifications including the voltage margining required by all server OEMs to improve the reliability and predictability, Inphi's IN581AMB is a critical component for next-generation servers and communications devices
Inphi(R) Corporation (www.inphi-corp.com) today announced the debut of its IN581AMB, the first device to include an interface between the high-speed serial interface and industry standard DDR2 SDRAM that is fully compliant with the JEDEC AMB specifications. The IN581AMB maximizes performance of the high-speed, serial, point-to-point connection between the memory controller and the modules on the channel, a key attribute of the FBDIMM channel architecture, enabling server memory module suppliers and DRAM manufacturers to produce some of the industry's best solutions at extremely low costs.
"AMB technology is revolutionizing the memory industry by enabling the migration of memory to processor architectures from a parallel bus to a serial bus format, similar to the IO and many other communication systems," said Desi Rhoden, chairman of the JEDEC Memory Committee and executive vice president of Inphi Corporation. "Anticipating this enormous opportunity and recognizing a direct correlation to this shift and its expertise, Inphi Corporation, the only fabless semiconductor company playing in this market, developed components that drive new standards in performance, cost and size."
Part of the industry-leading ExacTik(R) Family, the IN581AMB features some of the industry's lowest latency, lowest power, smallest die size and advanced features including per lane high speed pattern generator and BERT testing, resulting in some of the highest performing OEM systems in the world. Working closely with OEMs and DRAM manufacturers, and leveraging its expertise in production-proven SerDes technology, Inphi developed the IN581AMB for at-speed testing, customizable verification and debug environments, and timing margining. These features are critical for designers working on next-generation servers which require high performance and large memory arrays.
Inphi's AMB technology is the first to include margin testing, a function deemed essential by all server manufacturers. In addition to improving price and performance, these traits enable field analysis and improved system fault isolation by server OEMs.
Inphi's new IN581AMB is between 24% and 65% smaller than alternatives -- only 5x5 mm. The small size has a direct impact on OEM efforts to reduce overall system costs. In addition, Inphi delivers the lowest latency in the industry, and between 15 and 20% less power than the typical six or more watts associated with other AMB solutions.
The AMB interface is responsible for handling FBDIMM channel and memory requests to and from the local DIMM and for forwarding the requests to other DIMMs. Compared to existing registered DIMM technology, FBDIMMs provide increased memory capacities and bandwidth up to four times faster. It also uses low-signal pins and only 69 pins per channel, whereas existing DIMMs need 240 pins per channel.
The IN581AMB is available immediately in sampling quantities at approximately $23.00 per unit. For information, visit www.inphi-corp.com.
The ExacTik Family
Inphi's ExacTik family of CMOS timing devices for computing applications is the most comprehensive and highest performing in the industry. Every part meets or exceeds JEDEC specifications and delivers accuracy required at low-cost for next generation DDR2 applications. The ExacTik family includes timing devices for memory clocking and other server, workstation and notebook applications, and is characterized by the highest performance in terms of jitter, slew rates, lock times and skew.
