Preschoolers across the Nation to Have Fun and Stay Active with Hasbro's CANDY LAND DVD Play Along Initiative
Business Wire, Oct 11, 2005
EAST LONGMEADOW, Mass. -- Keeping preschoolers up and active is the purpose of the CANDY LAND DVD Play Along, a new initiative beginning this month from Hasbro's Milton Bradley division that reaches 25,000 preschools across the country. The CANDY LAND DVD Play Along incorporates game activities for preschoolers, tips and classroom materials for teachers and take-home information for parents, all targeted at igniting an active, healthy lifestyle for kids at a young age.
"Physical activity is an imperative part of a young child's life," said Jaci VanHeest, associate professor in the department of kinesiology, at the University of Connecticut.
"Games like the CANDY LAND DVD Game make activity fun and help children to establish healthy habits that last into older childhood and adulthood."
"We recognize a need for young children to maintain an active lifestyle and a desire among parents to introduce more physical activity in their children's daily routines," said Mark Blecher, senior vice president of marketing for Hasbro Games. "CANDY LAND DVD delivers classic Milton Bradley fun blended with energizing activity that gets kids up and moving."
Milton Bradley will kick off its CANDY LAND Play Along program on Oct. 12, inviting teachers and preschoolers to walk, hop, and skip to the CANDY LAND DVD GAME. In this version of the classic, favorite characters like Mr. Mint, King Kandy and Gramma Nutt lead children in games that keep them laughing and moving. Educators will also receive accompanying CANDY LAND lesson plans, activity sheets and posters that provide information to further strengthen kids' hand-eye coordination, fine and gross motor skills and directional skills.
About the CANDY LAND DVD GAME
The CANDY LAND DVD Game is for children ages 4 to 6 and provides a fun way to be physically active while indoors. The DVD allows kids to play three different games: Mr. Mint Says, Gramma Nutt's Musical Moves and King Kandy's Gumball Challenge. The CANDY LAND DVD GAME comes complete with one pop-and-play DVD holding three games, 24 gingerbread tokens and 24 floor mats that transform classrooms and family rooms into a living CANDY LAND path. For play outside of the classroom, the game can be purchased at all major toy and game retailers.
