Tumbleweed MailGate Email Firewall 6.2 Adds Support for OpenPGP Encryption; Enterprise-Class Deployments Also Improved with New Support for Multiple LDAP Directories and Enhanced High Availability and Failover Options

Business Wire, Oct 11, 2005

REDWOOD CITY, Calif. -- Tumbleweed(R) Communications Corp. (Nasdaq:TMWD), a leading provider of email security, managed file transfer, and identity validation appliance and software products, today announced the release of the MailGate Email Firewall 6.2, the latest version of Tumbleweed's award-winning email security suite offering comprehensive anti-spam, anti-virus, policy management, outbound content filtering, monitoring and encryption. With the addition of OpenPGP encryption, MailGate Email Firewall 6.2 now offers the most comprehensive set of gateway email encryption options on the market. And with added support for multiple LDAP directories and enhanced clustering capabilities, MailGate Email Firewall 6.2 can be integrated into the industry's broadest set of enterprise IT environments.

"Worldwide, organizations increasingly need to communicate securely with many external recipients such as customers, business partners, and government agencies," said Brian Burke, Research Manager, IDC. "As email security and encryption products mature, organizations are deploying more sophisticated email security solutions. For customers, the breadth of email encryption options supported, as well as enterprise-class manageability and visibility, are becoming critical differentiators for vendors in this market."

The MailGate Email Firewall version 6.2 adds OpenPGP encryption support to the product's current set of transparent secure messaging options, delivering the industry's most complete range of gateway encryption capabilities. These capabilities include:

--SMG-certified and desktop S/MIME encryption and digital signing for interoperable, cross-vendor B2B secure messaging

--Enforceable TLS encryption for relay-to-relay secure messaging to internal and external mail servers

--OpenPGP encryption and digital signing for B2C secure messaging to individuals with PGP desktop software

--A set of secure Web-based delivery mechanisms that provide universal B2C secure messaging

-- A secure staging server that uses customizable email
notifications to take the recipient to a secure Web
mailbox via SSL for online access to secure messages

-- A Secure Envelope(TM) that embeds the encrypted message in
an HTML attachment for offline access to secure messages

Additionally, having a complete policy-based encryption and decryption solution at the gateway ensures that the right business processes for email protection and security are in place, without the need for installation of desktop software. Desktop software can be both expensive to deploy and administer, as well as placing the burden for encryption and decryption management on each individual end user within an organization.

New features also include support for multiple LDAP sources to provide richer authentication and single sign-on options. The improved high availability and disaster recovery options provide industry-leading capabilities to meet service levels and maintain the integrity of enterprise email at the perimeter.

As email has become more and more mission critical to businesses and government organizations, they have begun to look for integrated, enterprise-class email security products to streamline, protect, and manage their email infrastructure. This is driven by the dramatic growth of spam, phishing, viruses, and spyware in inbound email, as well as the need to monitor and control the content of outbound email sent by the organization for regulatory compliance purposes (including HIPAA, GLBA, SB 1386, and Sarbanes-Oxley), and to protect sensitive customer and company data from disclosure.

"With this latest version of our MailGate Email Firewall, Tumbleweed is leading the industry in offering the highest levels of flexibility, performance and functionality while emphasizing the widest range of encryption options," said Craig Brennan, CEO of Tumbleweed. "The MailGate Email Firewall is an integrated solution that provides our customers with best-in-class capabilities to protect their organizations against today's email threats while reducing administrative costs."

The Tumbleweed MailGate Email Firewall version 6.2 is available now. MailGate Email Firewall can be used alone, or in combination with other Tumbleweed email security products to provide complete, multi-tier email security.
