Business Wire, Oct 14, 2005
JACKSONVILLE, Fla. -- DiStream today announced that it has made its gaming-on-demand service, Game xStream, available through the Online Spotlight feature on personal computers running Windows XP Media Center Edition 2005. Gamers can now easily access Game xStream's catalog of video game titles via remote control right from their home entertainment centers. Now, users of Media Center Edition 2005 can even play streaming graphic-intensive games on their big screen TV and home-theater audio systems.
Game xStream enables users to buy games online from leading publishers and developers including Merscom, Encore, 3D Realms, Radioactive Clown, Eidos Interactive, Piranha Games, Jarhead Games and others. Through Game xStream's intelligent streaming, gamers can start playing games within minutes of pressing the "Buy" button, and no longer have to wait for hours until the full game has been downloaded.
"Game xStream has been working closely with Microsoft to integrate its game streaming platform into the Media Center environment, giving the gamer easy, instant access to a library of existing and new release titles without having to leave the home or wait for a lengthy, sometimes cumbersome installation process," says Royal O'Brien, the company's founder and CEO. "By working with Microsoft, we feel confident Game xStream will provide the gaming community with the best in game playing experience."
"We're very pleased Game xStream is enabling Media Center users to buy and stream the latest video games on demand," said Dave Mendlen, director of Windows Consumer Marketing at Microsoft Corp. "The addition of Game xStream to Online Spotlight fits with our vision of delivering to users premium content, accessible by remote control."
