SYS Completes Development of Emergency Response Network for the State of California; New System to Provide Powerful New Capability for Emergency Response Decision Makers
Business Wire, Oct 18, 2005
SAN DIEGO -- SYS Technologies, (AMEX: SYS), a leading provider of real time information technology solutions to industrial and U.S. government customers, has completed development of the Emergency Response Management Network (ERMN), a distributed decision-making and situational awareness platform for the State of California, the Governors Office of Emergency Services (CA-OES) and California Department of Transportation (CALTRANS).
The ERMN is a multi-phased initiative funded jointly by the Department of Homeland Security through its Office of Domestic preparedness and the State of California being led by the CA-OES and CALTRANS. The first phase of the project is an initial proof of concept in advance of future roll-out phases. SYS Technologies teamed with Decision Factors Incorporated, another San Diego based company, in this effort.
The ERMN platform delivers a powerful new capability for unified first responder coordination to greatly improve the coordination of inter-agency emergency response. Using the ERMN, municipalities can weave together their geospatial information systems, alerting & notification, records and resource management, routing, video surveillance, sensor networks and automated vehicle location & tracking systems and other emerging public safety, emergency response and homeland security technologies so that they work as an ensemble. The ERMN capability employs a decentralized, distributed network architecture delivering maximum control to local user communities (municipalities, port authorities, critical infrastructure providers, etc.) while providing a framework for information sharing and aggregation across all levels of government.
ERMN is initially being deployed in Alameda County (CA); nodes will also be installed in CA-OES and CALTRANS headquarters in Sacramento. The ERMN platform draws data from hundreds of sources including live CALTRANS transportation data. The flexibility of the system architecture and non-reliance on specific systems and/or vendors enables ERMN to provide critical flexibility in the event of a major incident where ad hoc teams from multiple disciplines, agencies, jurisdictions and echelons come together for the first time.
Cliff Cooke, President and CEO of SYS said, "This is a key step for our new Public Safety and Security Division. The opportunity provided by the State of California allowed us to showcase our full suite of technical capabilities and to deploy a unique low cost solution with high value components. We hope this program will lead to further roll-outs of the solution in California and lead to further opportunities to deploy this type of solution to other federal, state, local and municipal governments who are in need of emergency response solutions."
Mr. Cooke added, "The ERMN leverages multiple components of the SYS product and services portfolio including our interoperability capabilities, web-based geo-spatial information and visualization tools and decision support software."
