Trolltech Expands Industry Leadership Role as Founding Member of Two New Linux Initiatives; Trolltech Helping Define and Promote Common Linux Standards Through OSDL's Mobile Linux Initiative and the LSB Desktop Project

SAN JOSE, Calif. -- Trolltech(R), provider of leading technologies that make advanced software faster to build and easier to use, is solidifying its role as a Linux pioneer and proponent through ground-floor participation in two new Linux initiatives. Trolltech is a founding member of the Open Source Development Lab's (OSDL) new Mobile Linux Initiative and has joined the Free Standards Group (FSG) as an active participant in its new Linux Standard Base (LSB) Desktop Project. These projects have been created to help define and promote common standards for Linux for mobile devices and on the desktop, respectively.

Trolltech with Qt Active in LSB Desktop Project

Trolltech is actively participating in the LSB workgroup process with Qt, which serves as the software foundation for the popular Linux desktop environment, KDE. In addition to Trolltech, the Free Standards Group announced today that it has already achieved wide participation from companies such as IBM, Intel, HP, Mandriva, Novell, Linspire and Xandros.

OSDL MLI Targets Next-Generation Handsets

OSDL, a global consortium dedicated to accelerating the adoption of Linux, announced yesterday the Mobile Linux Initiative (MLI), a new working group focused on accelerating the adoption of Linux in the rapidly-growing mobile market. Trolltech, along with other MLI participants including MontaVista Software, Motorola, PalmSource and Wind River, will work on Linux operating system technical challenges, foster development of applications for Linux-based mobile devices, deliver requirements definition documents and use cases, and host complementary open source projects that support the initiative.
