Identix Experiencing Growing Momentum in Healthcare Market for Biometric Authentication Systems & Solutions

Business Wire, Oct 19, 2005

MINNETONKA, Minn. -- Receives Purchase Orders Valued at Approximately $1.4 Million for Deployment of Fingerprint Biometric Authentication Solutions into Hospitals and Healthcare Agencies

Identix Incorporated (Nasdaq:IDNX) said today that it is seeing growing traction for the Company's biometric authentication technology in the healthcare market. Identix is partnered with Sentillion, Inc., a leading provider of single sign-on solutions for healthcare, to take biometric single sign-on solutions into the healthcare industry. Together, Identix and Sentillion have delivered their combined biometric single sign-on solutions to more than 21 healthcare institutions across North America.

Driven by the growing need for heightened security and the increasingly important requirement for better identification prior to granting access to PCs, company applications and healthcare institution and patient information, Identix perceives that leading healthcare companies may be increasing adoption of biometric authentication solutions to safeguard sensitive information. During its fiscal 2006 first quarter ending September 30, 2005, Identix received purchase orders for Healthcare deployments for its BioLogon(R) authentication software and from channel partners that integrate or embed Identix' enabling BioEngine(R) authentication technologies and accompanying single finger readers representing more than 35,000 seat licenses. The total value of these purchase orders is approximately $1.4 million. Identix said it expects to recognize approximately half of this revenue in its fiscal 2006 first quarter, with the remainder expected to be recognized in its fiscal 2006 second quarter ending December 31, 2005.

"We believe the validation and adoption of biometric technology by governments throughout the world is beginning to spill over into the enterprise and commercial markets," said Identix President & CEO Dr. Joseph J. Atick. "This is an expected, yet important development; one which we believe may mark the beginning of commercial business beginning to provide meaningful revenue streams for the biometrics industry.

"We believe the emergence of meaningful revenue streams in the commercial space, such as these recent healthcare orders, is an excellent complement to the solid growth we expect to continue to see in the federal, state & local and international government markets for identification systems and solutions," Atick continued, "Identix has invested hundreds of man years in developing key enabling components for biometric authentication. We believe Identix continues to be uniquely positioned to capitalize on this development in the commercial space, as our multi-biometric offerings include one-to-one and one-to-many authentication technology that can be an excellent fit with the growing need to protect access to data via biometric authentication. Additionally, because we are not providing an end-to-end solution for these markets, our core finger and face algorithms and application technology is a natural choice for channel owners such as Sentillion, as well as OEMs and other channel owners and other solutions companies that are looking to add biometric technologies authentication to their offerings. Sentillion has done an excellent job providing the healthcare industry with a multitude of robust, highly scalable and secure single sign-on solutions and we look forward to continuing to work closely with them to expand the breadth of both companies' offerings."
