Where Will Your Stock Trade in the Future? Exchanges to Debate the Future of Electronic Trading
Business Wire, Oct 20, 2005
NEW YORK -- The walls are shaking on Wall Street.
Following April's NYSE/Archipelago and NASDAQ/Instinet merger announcements, the future of stock trading in the U.S. was thrown into a tailspin. The New York chapter of the National Investor Relations Institute (NIRI-NY) will host a debate on Thursday, October 27, 2005 to explore what these mergers mean for Investor Relations Officers - where and how their stocks will be traded.
To be held at New York's Warwick Hotel from 5:30 PM to 8:00 PM, the NIRI-NY panel of insiders will debate key issues, including:
--The difference between the NYSE/Archipelago hybrid system and the Nasdaq/Instinet electronic system?
--How will volume, pricing, liquidity, transparency and execution be impacted?
--Can these markets coexist?
--How should IROs prepare for the change?
Participants will include:
Representing the NYSE will be Peter Jenkins, senior vice president, Institutional Client Group. Mr. Jenkins is responsible for overseeing the NYSE's relationship with the buyside community and key individual stakeholders, including mutual funds, public and corporate pension funds, non-profit organization, and hedge funds.
Representing Nasdaq will be Christopher R Concannon, executive vice president, Transaction Services and one of the key executives working on the Nasdaq/Instinet transaction. Prior to joining Nasdaq, Mr. Concannon was president of Instinet Clearing Services, Inc., where he managed the clearing and execution services business.
Representing the AMEX will be Antoine Shagoury, Chief Information Officer responsible for trading technology. He also supports business development, market structure, and strategic planning initiatives.
The NIRI-NY panel will be moderated by Prof. Robert A. Schwartz of Baruch College, an impartial expert on world trading systems. He has published extensively on the structure of equity markets and trading.
The event is open to professional journalists free of charge. Advance RSVP required.
