StarBak Video Communications Solution Aids Louisiana State University AgCenter with Hurricane Recovery Effort
Business Wire, Oct 24, 2005
WALTHAM, Mass. & BATON ROUGE, La. -- StarBak Communications(R), the leading provider of integrated network video solutions that allow organizations to simply and easily create, manage, deliver and display video-based applications over IP networks, today announced it is collaborating with Louisiana State University AgCenter (LSU AgCenter) to employ its video communications technology to assist in the Gulf Coast hurricane recovery efforts.
In the wake of the devastation left by hurricanes Katrina and Rita, StarBak Communications is contributing to the critical role the LSU AgCenter is playing in helping the region to recover. In the days following the hurricanes, one of the critical needs facing university administrators was communication throughout the LSU system; more specifically, providing current news and information to thousands of victims of the hurricane, and to those assisting with the recovery. To fill that need, LSU AgCenter turned to StarBak Communications, its provider of statewide video communications solutions.
The LSU AgCenter has created a wide array of storm-related content and uses StarBak's video communications solutions to stream and archive some of these materials. Topics of the video programs range from training on avoiding mold hazards and coping with stress to dealing with financial issues after the hurricanes to home clean up.
"As we work to recover from these disasters, the need for timely information has never been more urgent. Because of restrictions placed on travel throughout the state, video streaming has become the method of choice for reaching remote sites," said Kappie Mumphrey, LSU AgCenter chief information officer and associate vice chancellor for information technology. "StarBak was able to provide additional equipment, on short notice, to augment the system we already have. We're very appreciative of their support."
"When we received the call from LSU AgCenter asking if we could donate equipment to help with the hurricane recovery -- we immediately responded 'yes'," said Gregory Casale, StarBak president and chief executive officer. "This is one small way for the employees of StarBak to contribute to the recovery effort in Louisiana, and we're delighted to help however we can."
