OfficeMax Signs $18 Million Deal with Xerox to Place Color Systems in Stores Nationwide; 1,200 devices can produce anything from quick color copies to complex reports
Business Wire, Oct 27, 2005
BOSTON -- Making it more convenient for customers to produce high-quality color documents, OfficeMax Inc. (NYSE: OMX), a leader in business-to-business and retail office products, has signed an $18 million, four-year deal with Xerox Corporation (NYSE: XRX) to place 1,280 digital color multifunction systems in stores across the country.
After evaluating several competitive devices, OfficeMax(R) chose Xerox multifunction systems and digital copier-printers for their color quality, speed and reliability. With Xerox color systems available for self-service and behind-the-counter use, as well as in OfficeMax's five production centers nationwide, the equipment will help build new business for OfficeMax's Print and Document Services department.
"From a product standpoint, color printing and copying is our top priority because it represents an opportunity to serve our business customers' growing needs," said Brian Norris, senior vice president, Print and Document Services, OfficeMax. "Xerox is helping us make high-quality color accessible and easy to use for all of our customers."
For high-volume color printing and copying jobs, OfficeMax's Print and Document Services chose 630 Xerox DocuColor 240 and DocuColor 250 multifunction systems that print in color at up to 40 and 50 pages per minute, respectively. Installed behind the counter, these will be the main color production systems used in each store and will include high-capacity paper feeders to support long-run jobs. Printing at true 2400 x 2400 dpi, these Xerox color systems - introduced in June - are designed to give OfficeMax customers the best digital color quality available in retail today. These systems will be integrated into OfficeMax's existing digital network, allowing customers to submit their jobs right from their office desktops to any OfficeMax location.
As part of the deal, OfficeMax also installed 650 Xerox CopyCentre(R) C2636 standalone digital color copiers. Now, OfficeMax customers are able to walk up and directly produce high-quality color copies on demand. These color-capable systems can make both black-and-white and color copies economically; that means OfficeMax can provide color and black-and-white copying on one system at competitive prices.
In addition to the DocuColor 240/250 and CopyCentre C2636 office systems, OfficeMax is now supporting its large corporate customers with a Xerox DocuColor 8000 Digital Press in each of its five U.S. production centers. Printing up to 80 ppm in color, these systems allow OfficeMax to complete large projects faster in a production environment.
"OfficeMax recognizes that its customers value the impact and accessibility of color in documents," said Tim Williams, president, Xerox Office Group. "With an unsurpassed line of color systems, Xerox is a leader in the growing color market. This contract reinforces the strong customer response to our newest breakthrough color offering, the DocuColor 240/250."
