"To receive this recognition from the distinguished Japan Industrial Design Promotion Organization is a tremendous reward for all the hard work from everyone involved in the design of these products," said Guerrino De Luca, president and chief executive officer of Logitech. "Logitech design is as much cultural as it is process - we nurture a company-wide, deep-seeded passion for making products that are visually appealing and exceed our customers' expectations. It's gratifying to know that our passion and our process have resulted in such high acclaim."
The Logitech products receiving a G-Mark, the symbol of the Good Design Award 2005, are as follows:
Logitech Wireless Headphones for iPod
The Logitech(R) Wireless Headphones for iPod(R) provides music lovers high-quality sound and a comfortable fit - without any cords to tether them to their player. The headphones use advanced Bluetooth(R) 1.2 wireless technology, offering a range of 30 feet while providing crystal-clear digital audio quality. The headphones feature integrated iPod controls so people can adjust the volume as well as track forward, track backward, play and pause their playlists - while their iPod rests untouched on the counter, in a workout bag or in a pocket. The Logitech Wireless Headphones for iPod are designed for a secure and comfortable fit. The behind-the-head headband is lightweight, flexible and durable -- making it ideal for use in a variety of settings. The headphones weigh a mere 3.2 ounces and the wireless adapter, which connects to the iPod through the headphone jack, weighs just over 1 ounce.
"These wireless headphones have been developed with the obsession of providing high-quality sound," said Good Design jury member Tatsuya Wada. "The control features make navigating music files as easy as operating a remote control; the buttons are neatly organized within the round earpiece. The product emphasizes aesthetics and style. It's equally comfortable to wear the headphones on the ears and to hang the headphones around the neck when not in use. This very distinctive and impressive form, different from those of ordinary headphones, brings forth a brand new category of design."
The QuickCam Fusion Webcam
The stylish QuickCam(R) Fusion(TM) webcam features a new approach to webcam design: Instead of sitting high above the computer's monitor, the eyeball-shaped lens dips below the monitor casing and rests just above the display. The lower lens position makes it easier for people to maintain eye contact during a video call and have a more natural conversation. A chrome metal ring around the lens and a metallic grill over the microphone add a sense of sophistication to the design, while the webcam's metallic midnight blue body accentuates modern computer designs. The webcam also features breakthrough audio, video and software technologies - including a 1.3 megapixel sensor, Logitech(R) RightLight(TM) technology, Logitech(R) RightSound(TM) technology, and Logitech(R) Video Effects(TM) software - making the experience of live video and audio communications better and more natural than ever.
"The QuickCam Fusion webcam uses elements of Logitech's traditional eyeball metaphor, but its design has evolved to provide new features and deliver a better experience," said Good Design jury member Takeshi Toya. "The flexible clip provides a secure grip on a monitor, providing peace of mind for users. The Video Effects software, bundled with the product, is highly entertaining and helps broaden the potential of video communications."
The Logitech MX610 Laser Cordless Mouse
The world's first smart mouse, the Logitech(R) MX(TM)610 Laser Cordless Mouse can receive and process wireless communication from the PC. Other cordless mice can only send information in one direction: to the computer. Logitech integrated three LEDs (light-emitting diodes) into the smart mouse design, providing computer users with a tool that can tell them when the mouse battery is low and notify them when they receive an important e-mail or instant message (IM). The mouse also knows when the computer is on or off -- and it can save power by turning itself off when the PC is dormant. Sculpted for the right hand, the Logitech MX610 Laser Cordless Mouse delivers a comfortable fit to go along with its versatile and stylish design. The mouse features 10 buttons, including volume up, down and mute buttons for controlling music on the PC.
"The MX610 Laser Cordless Mouse targets high-end PC users. It successfully integrates a variety of PC controls into a single mouse, while improving the user experience through solid ergonomic approaches," Toya said.
