U.S. Army Combat Readiness Center to Enhance Risk Analysis with SPSS
Business Wire, Oct 3, 2005
CHICAGO -- SPSS Inc. (NASDAQ:SPSS), a leading worldwide provider of analytics software, today announced that the U.S. Army Combat Readiness Center (CRC), has purchased SPSS predictive analytics software to enhance risk analysis. By implementing SPSS technology, the CRC will be able to identify trends within risk-related data, improving the Center's ability to predict, control and prevent hazards threatening U.S. troops.
Formerly known as the U.S. Army Safety Center, the CRC's mission is to improve combat readiness and preserve combat power on Army bases around the globe. The CRC employs Composite Risk Management, a process that blends tactical, threat-based risks with accidental, hazardous-based risks to create a more thorough evaluation of danger, enabling highly effective risk analysis.
The CRC purchased Clementine(R), SPSS' data mining workbench, and Text Mining for Clementine(TM), linguistic extraction technology, to concurrently access both structured and non-structured data from multiple sources. Implementing predictive analytics software from SPSS will allow the CRC to apply associative and traditional statistical algorithms to discover patterns and relationships that can better assess risk.
"SPSS' predictive analytics enables government agencies, like the CRC, to base decisions on data-driven models that accurately depict both current and developing conditions," said SPSS President and CEO Jack Noonan. "Our software helps public safety and other government agencies anticipate behavior and events to maximize their resources. For CRC, this valuable insight can translate into saving lives."
In February, leading industry analyst firm IDC (www.idc.com) publicly announced a study that confirmed the emergence of predictive analytics as a distinct software sector. IDC projects that this sector will grow at a compound annual growth rate of 8 percent during the next five years. (1)
