Quest Software's JClass ServerChart Certified for Eclipse-Based IBM Rational Java Development Solutions; Latest Release Accelerates Development of Professional-Quality Servlet, JSP and JSF Web Applications
Business Wire, Oct 3, 2005
IRVINE, Calif. -- Quest Software Inc. (Nasdaq:QSFT), a leading provider of application, database and infrastructure management solutions, today announced that the new version of JClass(R) ServerChart is now certified by IBM as an integrated plug-in for the IBM Rational Software Development Platform (SDP), which is built on Eclipse. Version 5.5 of JClass ServerChart, part of JClass ServerViews, Quest's award-winning suite of Java components, now includes new usability enhancements for Java Web developers.
"End users have high expectations for usability and visualization in business Web applications, and JClass ServerViews dramatically reduces the time needed to add advanced charting and reporting to applications," said Larry Humphries, vice president of product management, application management solutions, Quest Software. "And when plugged into the IBM Rational SDP, JClass now helps developers exceed those expectations for usability."
JClass ServerViews is a set of 100 percent Java components that helps developers add professional charts and documents to their Servlet, JavaServer Pages (JSP) and JavaServer Faces (JSF) applications, enabling them to development related to business logic, instead of focusing on the "plumbing" of the application. Integrating seamlessly with leading Java application servers and IDEs, JClass ServerViews includes JClass ServerChart and JClass ServerReport. JClass ServerChart uses Servlet, JSP and JSF technologies to produce interactive graphic images from an application server without the need for applets. JClass ServerReport dynamically generates customized PDF and Microsoft RTF documents that users can view and print anywhere. Other new capabilities in JClass ServerChart include:
--Markers to highlight a particular coordinate in a chart, such as an average data value or data limits, are now displayed as lines in the chart. This enhances users' understanding of the chart data.
--A threshold feature that displays areas of color in the chart background and can be used to identify or draw attention to important ranges of data values, such as data values that fall below, meet or exceed expectations.
"As Eclipse has commoditized the core elements of a basic IDE, vendors need to ask themselves what the real value that their products' add is. The brave next step is then to be willing to offer just that functionality as Eclipse plug-ins," noted Forrester analyst Carl Zetie in his October 2004 report, "Eclipse Changes the Game for Development Tools."
