Barracuda Networks Launches Barracuda Spam Firewall 900 for Large Enterprises; New Barracuda Spam Firewall 900 Raises the Bar for Spam and Virus Filtering for Large Organizations
Business Wire, Oct 31, 2005
MOUNTAIN VIEW, Calif. -- Barracuda Networks, Inc., the leading provider of spam firewall solutions, today announced the Barracuda Spam Firewall 900, its second carrier-class spam appliance available for large organizations. The Barracuda Spam Firewall 900 offers the largest quarantine storage capacity and the fastest throughput available for an email gateway appliance.
"Following the success of the Barracuda Spam Firewall 800, we are taking email protection for large enterprises one step further with the Barracuda Spam Firewall 900," said Dean Drako, president and CEO of Barracuda Networks. "We recognize that email is the de facto communication channel for business operations at large enterprises. The Barracuda Spam Firewall 900 is the fastest and most secure solution for sending and receiving email available today."
The Barracuda Spam Firewall 900 builds on the power and reliability offered with all Barracuda Spam Firewall solutions, and includes 300GB storage capacity for quarantined messages and four CPUs for higher volume email processing. Similar to its predecessor, the Barracuda Spam Firewall 800, the new Barracuda Spam Firewall 900 features advanced capabilities including redundant hot swap power supplies, and dual gigabit Ethernet ports. Another key feature included with the Barracuda Spam Firewall 900 is multiple RAID disk arrays for greater performance.
The Barracuda Spam Firewall 900 also offers key outbound filtering techniques, such as outbound email attachment scanning, Barracuda Networks Rate Control System for protection against open relays and zombie PCs as well as support for inbound and outbound STARTTLS encryption. Multiple Barracuda Spam Firewall 900 units can be clustered for greater email redundancy and higher capacity.
Pricing and Availability
The Barracuda Spam Firewall 900 will be available in November and is priced at $29,999 for the appliance and $6,599 per year for subscription to the Energize Update service. For more information, please contact Barracuda Networks at 1-888-ANTI-SPAM or visit www.barracudanetworks.com.
About the Barracuda Spam Firewall
The Barracuda Spam Firewall is available in five models and supports from 1,000 to 25,000 active users with no per user licensing fees. The Barracuda Spam Firewall can be installed in front of the email server in typically less than five minutes and is automatically updated hourly to block new forms of spam and viruses. Its architecture leverages open source spam and virus solutions in conjunction with ten defense layers: denial of service and security protection, IP block list, rate control, virus check with archive decompression, proprietary virus check, user specified rules, spam fingerprint check, Intent Analysis, spam rule-based scoring, and Bayesian analysis. In addition, the entire Barracuda Spam Firewall line features simultaneous inbound and outbound email filtering with the inclusion of sophisticated outbound email filtering techniques such as rate controls, domain restrictions, user authentication (SASL), keyword and attachment blocking, dual layer virus blocking and remote user support for outbound email filtering. The Barracuda Spam Firewall's layered approach minimizes the processing of each email, which yields the performance required to process millions of messages per day. Unlike software solutions, the Barracuda Spam Firewall reduces the load placed on the email server by off-loading both spam and virus filtering. Barracuda Networks also offers the Energize Update subscription service to automatically update the Barracuda Spam Firewall with the latest spam rules and virus definitions.
