Apptis, NAV CANADA Announce Strategic Partnership On Air Traffic Control Systems

Business Wire, Oct 31, 2005

CHANTILLY, Va. -- Apptis, Inc. a Northern Virginia systems integrator and NAV CANADA, the Canadian civil Air Navigation Services provider, today announced a strategic partnership whereby Apptis will assist NAV CANADA in marketing, deploying and supporting proven air traffic control automation and management tools and techniques for use in the U.S. National Airspace System (NAS).

The two tools that will be included in the partnership are the Visual Aircraft Spacing Tool (VAST), and the Scheduling and Sequencing System (SASS). VAST is operational within the Canadian air traffic control system, while SASS has passed Operational Evaluation in Toronto, with final implementation set for Winter 2006.

VAST increases airport capacity and reduces delays by allowing controllers to space aircraft on converging and parallel approaches, particularly during times of low visibility.

SASS is an automation aid that allows controllers to better "line up" aircraft as they begin to converge on a busy airport allowing more aircraft to move through the airspace and into the terminal area, significantly improving the efficient use of the available airspace.

In announcing the alliance, Sid Koslow, NAV CANADA Vice President and Chief Technology Officer for NAV CANADA said, "We very much value Apptis' domain expertise specific to the U.S. system and we believe that together we can offer quicker, more cost effective solutions to the NAS challenges."

Frank Frisbie, Apptis Vice President for Strategic Initiatives, said, "NAV CANADA has shown itself to be a model for practical, cost effective development and rapid deployment of technologic and managerial change to meet the needs of civil aviation in the modern era. Apptis provides technical, program, product, and operations support for the NAS real-time enroute, terminal, oceanic, flight service, weather, and communications systems. Coupling our skill set and resources with the proven products from our partner will assist in driving these proven products into other aviation markets. With demonstrated experience on over 25 NAS systems, Apptis is integral to the maintenance and enhancement of the NAS on a daily basis."
