Dow Jones Appoints Maria Molland General Manager of MarketWatch.com
Business Wire, Oct 31, 2005
NEW YORK -- Dow Jones & Company (NYSE: DJ) today announced that Maria Molland has been appointed general manager of MarketWatch.com, which includes the destination site, BigCharts.com, search401k, Virtual Stock Exchange and the newsletter business. She will report to Nathan Richardson, senior vice president and general manager, Dow Jones Online.
Ms. Molland, who joins the Company on Nov. 1, will be responsible for driving product development and innovation, design, operations, and general management of the Web business.
"Dow Jones Online is the largest producer of proprietary business and financial news and information, having tripled our online audience and doubled our Internet revenue this year with the acquisition of MarketWatch," Mr. Richardson said. "With the addition of Maria to the team, we expect to continue to accelerate our product innovation and advertising capabilities, and deliver a differentiated, essential service to our MarketWatch users."
Prior to joining MarketWatch, Ms. Molland worked at Yahoo, where she was the director of business development for Yahoo Finance--a position she held for three years before joining the financial services advertising team this past spring. In this role, Ms. Molland was responsible for setting strategy and leading several major initiatives-- including the development of a stock-ticker plant, the identification of the inaugural personal finance exclusive commentators and the oversight of the business-development relationships and negotiations with more than 150 partners. During her tenure, Yahoo Finance established game-changing relationships with Intuit, Motley Fool, American City Business Journals and several other publishers. Before joining Yahoo in 2002 as a business-development manager, Ms. Molland worked at the Disney Internet Group, Volpe Brown Whelan, and Coopers & Lybrand Securities.
"It's an honor to be joining the talented team at MarketWatch," Ms. Molland said. "I look forward to helping MarketWatch further develop its strategic relationships and grow to be the leader in providing differentiated and compelling content and tools for both consumers and professionals."
Ms. Molland received a bachelor's degree from Northwestern University and an M.B.A. from Harvard Business School.
