Medtrode Inc. Announces Strategic Partnership With Impulse Monitoring Inc

Business Wire, Oct 6, 2005

LONDON, Ontario -- Medtrode Inc. today announced that it is entering a strategic partnership with Impulse Monitoring Inc., a leading provider of intra-operative monitoring services. Impulse will assist Medtrode in its efforts to further develop an innovative multi-functional DBS electrode to facilitate intra-operative targeting and stimulation. Impulse neurologists and technologists are already providing intra-operative monitoring services to neurosurgeons and are ideally placed to advise and assist Medtrode in refining its products to serve these clinical applications.

Although entry into the neurosurgical operating room will result in a shorter revenue trajectory, Medtrode will continue to develop its portfolio of technologies for a more lucrative implantable market. These technologies include an implantable multichannel recording and stimulation system that streamlines the surgical procedure and allows for unprecedented therapy configuration.

The primary platform technologies are being developed with the focus on Deep Brain Stimulation. However, Medtrode's R&D capabilities and programs are specifically tailored to allow easy conversion of the platform technologies to enable robust therapies in a broad spectrum of neurostimulation applications.

"We are delighted to work with a market leader such as Impulse that will provide us with additional experience in clinical applications, funding and assistance in achieving significant milestones including FDA approvals. This will allow us to accelerate our development of new technology solutions," says Dr. Souhile Assaf, CEO of Medtrode. Impulse CEO Roger Conley summarized the strategic partnership as "An excellent opportunity for Impulse to leverage its leadership position and resources to participate in the emerging market for neurostimulation technology."

Medtrode will be presenting at 3:05 p.m. on October 10th at Medtech Insight's "Investment In Innovation (In3) BOSTON: A Preview of Early-Stage Medical Technology Companies" Conference, taking place October 10-11, 2005, at The Westin Copley Place Hotel in Boston, MA.
