Business Wire, Sept 12, 2005
SAN MATEO, Calif. -- Composite Software, the leading provider of enterprise information integration (EII) solutions, today announced the appointment of Dr. James Crawford as vice president of engineering. Dr. Crawford brings fifteen years of experience in software research and development, including extensive experience in managing complex, high-profile, software development projects in specific areas of relevance to Composite such as optimization and heuristic analysis. His responsibilities at Composite include product development, quality assurance, and product support. His focus will be on maintaining and extending Composite's strong record of timely, high-quality releases, while meeting the challenges resulting from the company's continued high rate of growth.
"Composite has established its leadership position through world-class design and product execution," said Jim Green, chairman and CEO of Composite Software. "James is the right candidate for us because he has a track record of meeting complex deliverables on time and with high quality. We are pleased to have him on the team."
Dr. Crawford comes to Composite from Ames Research Center, NASA's center of excellence for information technology. At Ames, Crawford was responsible for a group of almost 100 researchers in intelligent robotics, planning software, and spacecraft design. Among other projects, his teams recently delivered an optimized activity planner for the Mars rovers and genetically-engineered antennae for NASA's ST5 mission. In stringent NASA-wide competitions in 2005, his teams won five major new awards totaling over $20 million.
Prior to joining NASA, Dr. Crawford led the Optimization team at i2 Technologies, responsible for algorithms to solve the largest supply-chain planning problems. As part of his work at i2, he led a series of significant Joint Development Projects that gave i2 differentiated product capabilities in pricing optimization, sell side content, and decision support for contract negotiation. Prior to i2, Dr. Crawford worked at AT&T Bell Laboratories and co-founded the Computational Intelligence Research Laboratory (CIRL) at the University of Oregon. Dr. Crawford is the author of over fifteen papers in referred journals and conferences, and holds five patents. He holds PhD and Master's degrees in Computer Science from the University of Texas at Austin, and a BA in Math and Computer Science from Rice University.
