Quest Software Introduces Toad for DB2 to Boost Developer Productivity; the De-Facto Standard for Oracle Developers is Now Available for DB2 UDB

Business Wire, Sept 12, 2005

ORLANDO, Fla. -- Quest Software Inc. (Nasdaq:QSFT), a leading provider of application, database and infrastructure management solutions, today announced a beta version of Quest Toad(R) for DB2, a full-featured database development solution that increases user productivity for SQL development and database object management. This product complements Quest Software's heterogeneous database management family of products designed to improve database performance, availability and manageability from initial design through production. Quest, an IBM Business Partner, will preview the beta version of Toad for DB2 at the IBM DB2 Information Management Technical Conference in Orlando.

Toad for DB2 is designed to address the needs of the DB2 community of developers so they can rapidly create and execute queries and develop SQL code more efficiently. It also provides utilities for users to import/export data, manage projects and automate stored procedure development. In conjunction with the Toad for DB2 product, Quest supports Toad users by hosting an interactive community of peers and experts.

"We are excited Quest is making Toad available to the DB2 community," said Leon Katsnelson, IBM program director, competitive technologies. "Toad has a strong following in the database development community, especially in Oracle environments. The rapid adoption of DB2 paired with the availability of Toad for DB2 allows application developers and DBAs to now leverage their existing skills when migrating to DB2 or operating in a multi-vendor database environment."

With this release, the Toad family of products is available for Oracle, DB2 UDB, SQL Server and MySQL. Toad for Oracle is considered the de-facto industry standard for Oracle database development and administration.

This beta version of Toad for DB2 includes:

--Connection Manager - A single interface for DB2 connection and password data that simplifies and centralizes the database connection process;

--SQL Editor - An intuitive SQL Procedure editor and modeler to accelerate stored procedure construction;

--Object Management - A database browser that provides DB2 object creation and alter functionality, making DDL generation and extraction easier;

--Project Manager - A desktop pane that simplifies SQL file organization by consolidating commonly used development code;

--Knowledge Xpert - A built-in DB2 knowledge base that reduces the amount of time spent digging through manuals to comprehend DB2 administration, application development and tuning.

Quest Software provides two user communities, the Toad community and the Quest Pipelines, to support Quest solutions for DB2 and to help acclimate DB2 users to the platform. The Toad community offers a forum in which users have open communication with Quest Software developers and product managers to provide recommendations on product enhancements. Additionally, with over 12,000 users, the Quest Pipelines are available to anyone seeking database development and administration information from experts on major database platforms.

"For businesses that have deployed on Linux, UNIX or Windows servers, Toad for DB2 will give developers of all skill levels the ability to maximize code quality while improving developer productivity," said Juli Ackerman, vice president, database management solutions, Quest Software. "Toad for DB2 is the newest addition to Quest's line of database management products designed to help users get the most out of their investments in DB2. Quest products are a proven solution set for businesses adopting DB2 databases in an effort to lower the total cost of ownership of IT infrastructure and improve the reliability and speed of their application development."

Toad for DB2 will join Quest Software's other innovative DB2 solutions to assist enterprises in achieving unparalleled performance and availability for DB2 UDB databases. Toad for DB2 will complement Quest Central for DB2, an integrated suite of tools for managing DB2 UDB on Linux, Unix, Windows and DB2 on z/OS. This suite provides complete database administration, SQL tuning, space management and performance diagnostics across platforms from a single console.
