Oxford University Press to Create Content Delivery Platform Based on MarkLogic Server; World's Largest University Press Selects Mark Logic to Provide New Content Products to Educators, Students, and Researchers
Business Wire, Sept 12, 2005
SAN MATEO, Calif. -- Mark Logic(R) Corporation, provider of the industry's leading XML content server, today announced that Oxford University Press, Inc., the US division of the world's largest university publisher, will use MarkLogic Server to build a content delivery platform providing new online content products to libraries and academic institutions.
Mark Logic will enable Oxford University Press to leverage content across multiple product lines and create highly customized products to reach untapped audiences -- maximizing previous content investments and lowering the overall cost to produce and deliver new products.
"MarkLogic Server will be the foundation of a new content delivery platform at Oxford University Press," said Alex Humphreys, director of online engineering for Oxford University Press, Inc. "Mark Logic gives us greater flexibility not only in how we process, distribute, and render our content, but also in how we develop new content products. MarkLogic Server enables us to leverage our existing content in order to more efficiently meet our customers' needs."
The first implementation on the new Mark Logic-based content delivery platform will be the African American Studies Center. This unique technology project will bring together content from Oxford University Press' African American reference resources, specially-commissioned supplemental information, images, maps, timelines, and primary source documents. Visitors to this subscription-based Web site will be able to browse and conduct powerful searches across multiple scholarly reference materials on a variety of different historical subjects -- from the Great Migration of the early 1900s to the Civil Rights Movement -- with results classified by subject area and time period.
"It's very exciting to have Mark Logic selected by one of the true leaders in the publishing world today," said David Spenhoff, vice president of marketing of Mark Logic. "We look forward to working closely with Oxford University Press to break down the barriers to content integration, reuse, and custom publishing, and to help them deliver richer, more targeted information to the academic community."
