PivX Announces Availability of Intrusion Prevention Software for the Desktop; PreEmpt 2.0 Provides Proactive Security Against New Threats Such as Zotob, to Enterprise and Home PCs
Business Wire, Sept 12, 2005
NEWPORT BEACH, Calif. -- PivX Solutions, Inc. today announced general availability of PreEmpt 2.0, a proactive intrusion prevention solution designed specifically for the desktop. With PreEmpt 2.0, attacks are stopped before they reach the desktop, allowing end users to work without interruption.
PreEmpt 2.0 utilizes patent-pending technologies that fundamentally change the way Windows-based PCs are secured. By blocking the underlying security vulnerabilities in Windows itself, PreEmpt 2.0 goes beyond the capabilities of traditional anti-virus, anti-spyware and personal firewall offerings by blocking the point of attack instead of attempting to clean the symptoms of the attack. With this new and innovative approach, PreEmpt 2.0 is able to prevent damage from zero-day attacks.
"In the past the focus has been on creating a secure network perimeter," said Tydus Richards, CEO of PivX. "But in today's world of mobile users, wireless technology and web services, the perimeter is becoming increasingly porous. Now is the time to start protecting the endpoint devices. Leveraging our world-renowned vulnerability research, PivX PreEmpt protects the endpoint without interfering with other applications, in the office or on the road the device stays protected."
"As an IT manager, I am always concerned about our growing number of mobile users who are constantly exposed to malicious threats while on the road," said Rick Knaggs, of CACI International. "But with PivX PreEmpt 2.0, we prevent attacks happening in the first place, which greatly reduces our maintenance time per PC."
PreEmpt 2.0 has a variety of new features aimed at automating and strengthening the desktop intrusion prevention process, including:
Real-time Attack Detection and Reporting. When PreEmpt 2.0 blocks an attack, it triggers both an alert and logs the details of the event for future analysis.
Ability to Repair Buffer Overflow. Buffer overflows prevalent and dangerous. They count for 60-70 percent of discovered vulnerabilities(1), and have been the root cause of worms such as MS-Blaster, Sasser, SQLSlammer, and others. PreEmpt 2.0 prevents buffer overflows without impacting legitimate applications.
Application Specific Virtualized Registry. PreEmpt 2.0 is able to uniquely enforce strict security controls around frequently exploited Windows applications while also allowing applications that need less strict security to function without any system impact.
Pricing and Availability
PreEmpt 2.0 is now available for download for Windows XP, 2000, and NTusers by visiting http://www.pivx.com. The cost for a one-user software license plus one full year of automatic updates is $49.95. In October, PreEmpt 2.0 will be available for Windows, Windows 98.
