Egenera and Fujitsu Siemens Computers Sign $300M Exclusive OEM Strategic Alliance in Europe, Middle East and Africa ; Fujitsu Siemens Computers Integrates Egenera BladeFrame System Into PRIMERGY Server Line
Business Wire, Sept 14, 2005
MARLBORO, Mass. & MUNICH, Germany -- Egenera Inc. and Fujitsu Siemens Computers today announced that they have entered into an exclusive OEM strategic alliance worth $300 million over approximately three years. Under the terms of the agreement, which takes effect immediately, Fujitsu Siemens Computers will integrate the award-winning Egenera(R) BladeFrame(R) solution into its PRIMERGY server portfolio. This exclusive alliance, valid throughout Europe, the Middle East and Africa, is designed to bring even more flexibility and economic efficiency to the Dynamic Data Center.
According to its most recent annual report, in the fiscal year ending March 31, 2005 Fujitsu Siemens Computers continued to outpace the European market by more than six percentage points, achieving over EUR6 billion in revenue for the first time. Quoted in dollars, revenue growth outperformed all competitors, positioning Fujitsu Siemens Computers as the fastest-growing IT vendor worldwide.
The Egenera BladeFrame system will become part of Fujitsu Siemens Computers' successful PRIMERGY line of industry-standard servers. Moreover, the PRIMERGY BladeFrame will be a key contributor to Fujitsu Siemens Computers' Dynamic Data Center (DDC) infrastructures, a model in which server, networking and storage resources are virtualized and pooled. Acknowledging that it intends to drive revenue growth primarily through solutions that enable this approach, Fujitsu Siemens Computers has designated fiscal year 2005/2006 as the Year of the Dynamic Data Center and pledged to bring new levels of IT efficiency, adaptability and automation to customers.
"Today's agreement with Fujitsu Siemens Computers is a major proof point, validating our strategy of growth through strategic alliances and geographic diversification," said Bob Dutkowsky, chairman, president and CEO, Egenera. "We were looking for a strong partner among IT market leaders that shared our vision, appreciated our value proposition, and had the strength and breadth to deliver our solutions across EMEA. In addition, this agreement provides a framework for joint research and development, benefiting both companies and our customers. We are gratified that a company of Fujitsu Siemens Computers' caliber has chosen Egenera as a technology partner to help make the next generation of data center technology a reality for its customers."
"This agreement is a natural extension of our Dynamic Data Center and TRIOLE(TM) strategy. Fujitsu Siemens Computers and Egenera have a complementary vision of the Dynamic Data Center. With our proven IT infrastructure solutions, such as FlexFrame for mySAP Business Suite(R), we made this vision already a reality," said Dr. Joseph Reger, Chief Technology Officer at Fujitsu Siemens Computers. "Our customers want solutions that help them adapt and build their data centers to support overall business objectives. The PRIMERGY BladeFrame system, a technology that is already deployed in marquee data centers around the globe, brings the DDC to the next level. We are excited to team up with Egenera in the Dynamic Data Center, as they have one of the most complete visions and advanced implementation in this field. We look forward to a successful alliance that will benefit our customers across EMEA."
Through adding the PRIMERGY BladeFrame to its solutions offering, Fujitsu Siemens Computers is providing customers an additional avenue towards the Dynamic Data Center. Designed to help enterprises enhance their responsiveness to market opportunities, the Dynamic Data Center offers CIOs infrastructures to control costs and improve ROI. They are, in turn, able to support their organizations with increased flexibility and application performance as well as effective resource utilization.
