Comtech AHA Announces Apache Web Server Plug-in for AHA362-PCIX GZIP Compression/Decompression Accelerator; Apache Module Reduces CPU Time Required by Web Servers for Compression
Business Wire, Sept 15, 2005
MOSCOW, Idaho -- Comtech AHA Corporation (Comtech AHA), a wholly-owned subsidiary of Comtech Telecommunications Corp. (NASDAQ:CMTL), announces the availability of an Apache plug-in module for its AHA362-PCIX GZIP board. This software module (mod_deflate_aha) is a drop in replacement for the standard mod_deflate software compression module and uses the AHA362-PCIX board as the compression engine rather than zlib. This plug-in module, combined with the AHA362-PCIX, can compress both static and dynamic content on the fly. The bandwidth saved by compressing web content before sending over the Internet creates a better experience for the user by reducing download time and link requirements. Compressing content with hardware rather than software increases the number of clients that can be handled by the web server.
Comtech AHA conducted benchmark tests of a server without compression, a server with standard mod_deflate software, and a server with AHA362-PCIX hardware compression using the Apache plug-in. While processing multiple concurrent requests, the server using the AHA362-PCIX hardware was able to complete requests almost twice as fast compared to no compression and over four times as fast compared to software compression. For more information on the test results, please refer to Comtech AHA application note ANGZIP03. This document may be downloaded from the Comtech AHA website at http://www.aha.com/pubs/ANgzip03_0805.pdf.
> Comtech AHA's AHA362-PCIX, with data rates over 3.0 gigabits per second, is the only GZIP compression/decompression solution available that offers the high speed performance required by web servers, networking and storage systems today. The AHA362-PCIX GZIP board will improve speed and performance for nearly any system requiring both compression and decompression.Pricing and Availability
The Apache plug-in is currently available for Linux at no charge with the purchase of an AHA362-PCIX board. Contact AHA by telephone at 208-892-5600 or via e-mail at sales@aha.com for more information.
