Borders Group Converts Waldenbooks in Monterey to Borders Express™

ANN ARBOR, Mich. -- The Waldenbooks store at the Del Monte Center in Monterey, Calif. will be converted by Borders Group (NYSE:BGP) into a Borders Express location. Borders Group, the parent company of Waldenbooks and Borders, is converting approximately 100 Waldenbooks locations to Borders Express nationwide this year. The 8,615-square-foot store in Monterey, like all conversions of Waldenbooks to Borders Express, will bring customers a fresh, new shopping experience. The store layout will be enhanced and the design updated with new colors and fixtures. In addition, the book selection will be expanded and select DVD and music titles will be added as well as an array of gifts and stationery items.
Grand opening events at Borders Express will take place on Saturday, Oct. 15 and Sunday, Oct. 16. The celebration will include an opportunity for customers to register to win one of two $50 Borders gift cards and a complete set of Borders Classics books on Saturday. The following events will take place during the weekend:
Saturday, Oct. 15
-- 11 a.m. -Storytime featuring "Diary of a Spider" by Doreen
Cronin
-- Noon - Clifford, the Big Red Dog visits
-- Noon - Gary Breschini, Mona Grudgel and Trudy Haversar sign
copies of their book of photography, "Early Salinas"
-- Noon - Julie Cain signs copies of her book of photography,
"Monterey's Hotel del Monte"
-- 2 p.m. - Carol Firenze signs copies of her book, "The
Passionate Olive"
-- 4 p.m. - Historian and biologist Jeff Norman signs of his book,
"Big Sur"
-- 4 p.m. - Former curator of the California Historical Society,
Kent Seavy, signs copies of his book, "Pacific Grove"
Sunday, Oct. 16
-- Noon - Clifford, the Big Red Dog, returns
-- 2:30 p.m. - The Fiction Writers of the Monterey Peninsula sign
copies of their anthology, "Monterey Shorts II"
