BorderWare and Ubiquity Partner for Next Generation Network SIP Security
Business Wire, Sept 20, 2005
BOSTON -- BorderWare Technologies Inc., the leading provider of messaging security solutions and Ubiquity Software, a provider of carrier-grade SIP Application Servers, today announced a partnership to provide service providers with enhanced security solutions for SIP-based applications, including Voice Over Internet Protocol (VoIP) and multimedia applications.
Further enhancing the Security of SIP Deployments
Session Initiation Protocol (SIP) is a standards-based protocol (RFC 3261) that enables and manages real-time streaming communications using TCP, UDP and RTP. Emerging applications that will use SIP include VoIP, Videoconferencing, Push-to-Talk, Instant Messaging, presence-based collaborative applications and 3G Mobile Services. However, SIP-based applications that have not addressed application-level security can be vulnerable to many of the threats experienced in email today including Denial-of-Service (DoS) attacks and SIP spam.
"Adoption of SIP-based applications is growing rapidly," said Michael Osterman, president and founder of Osterman Research. "Security is an important concern of service providers and by working together, BorderWare and Ubiquity will be among the leaders in driving the next generation of secure SIP-based applications."
BorderWare and Ubiquity recognized the need for application-level security providing caller authentication services for all inbound and outbound connections, stateful inspection and rules-based packet filtering and built in Quality of Service (QoS) to minimize voice jitter and guarantee session availability. By combining BorderWare's 11 years of messaging security expertise with Ubiquity's carrier-grade SIP Application Server technology, the two companies are ideally positioned to define and develop an integrated, secure solution that furthers the adoption of emerging applications such as Push-To-Talk-Over-Cellular, Multi-user Gaming, Mobile Instant and Video Conferencing.
"Ubiquity Software is committed to offering secure SIP-based solutions to our customer," said Mike Doyle, CTO of Ubiquity. "By partnering with BorderWare, our service provider customers can have the best of both worlds - rich application functionality and security."
"BorderWare is the leading provider of application level SIP security," said Tim Leisman, CEO, BorderWare. "We are very excited about working with Ubiquity Software to further our commitment to develop and deploy application-level SIP security for end users world-wide."
