PC Magazine editors highlighted ZoneAlarm's innovative new firewall-based anti-spyware prevention mechanism -- called the OSFirewall(TM) -- which thwarts attacks and stops spyware from performing malicious actions on a users' PC. Editors praised this industry-first, brand new defense layer used to guard the health of a PC at the core. Designed as a kernel-level, behavior-based firewall, the OSFirewall monitors suspicious activity affecting the operating system, programs and files, and disables destructive programs.
"To protect yourself against malware effectively, you want to stop it before it gets on your system. Most anti-spyware programs, however, haven't been as effective at stopping spyware from getting onto your PC; rather, they identify it once it's there," said Neil J. Rubenking, lead analyst at PC Magazine. "In our in-depth look at the product, it appears to be the most effective spyware prevention tool to date ... Just when we thought ZoneAlarm's firewall had reached its peak, Zone Labs has found a way to make it even better, increasing its power against spyware and leak-test malware techniques."
Also praised by editors was the suite's SmartDefense Advisor, which utilizes the expertise of Check Point and Zone Labs' security research departments and leverages DefenseNet -- a community of front-line users -- to provide real-time alerts and actionable information on the latest threats. Through the SmartDefense process, over 95% of policy decisions are automated -- significantly reducing the amount of "noise" and sparing the end user from having to constantly manually accept or deny application activities and alerts.
"We are honored and thrilled to be recognized by the experts at PC Magazine," said Gregor Freund, CTO of Check Point Software Technologies and founder of Zone Labs. "Although security threats and malicious programs are difficult to predict, we will continue to innovate to protect consumers and ultimately provide a safe Internet experience for all."
