Wave7 Optics Introduces the Trident7 Optical Access Platform — Industry's First ''Universal PON'' System to Meet Next-Generation FTTP Network Requirements

ATLANTA -- New Platform Fully Supports Both IEEE 802.3ah Ethernet in the First Mile and ITU-T G.984 Gigabit PON Standards and Wave7's Widely Deployed Last Mile Link Technology

Wave7 Optics Inc., a leading supplier of fiber-to-the-home and -premises (FTTH/FTTP) broadband network equipment for residential and business services, today introduced the Trident7 Optical Access Platform - an advanced "universal PON" (passive optical network) system that essentially eliminates the risks that service providers face in selecting and deploying an optical access technology. Wave7 will debut the Trident7 publicly next week at both the Fiber To The Home Conference & Expo in Las Vegas (booth 624) and at the Broadband World Forum Europe conference in Madrid (stand 11023) and will begin shipping it to customers later this year.

In addition to Wave7's Ethernet-based Last Mile Link (LML) system, two standards are emerging as dominant FTTP technologies around the world - IEEE 802.3ah Ethernet in the First Mile (EFM) and ITU-T G.984 Gigabit-capable PON (G-PON). As the Trident7 fully supports EFM, GPON and LML on a "blade by blade" basis, Wave7 customers will not be locked into one FTTP standard and will have support from a field-proven vendor with more than 100 FTTP deployments on six continents. The Trident7 also incorporates Wave7 Optics' many unique and patented FTTP innovations, including multi-layer QoS, integrated RF return for interactive video, industry leading 128-bit encryption and Stimulated Raman Scattering (SRS) immunity for the highest quality video.
