MetroPCS Becomes the Second U.S. Phone Operator to Offer Immersion VibeTonz™ System in a Mobile Phone; Samsung n330 Wins Additional MetroPCS Business With Innovative Design Including VibeTonz System
Business Wire, Sept 27, 2005
SAN JOSE, Calif. -- Immersion Corporation (Nasdaq:IMMR), a leading developer and licensor of touch feedback technology, announced that the Samsung n330 mobile phone, with Immersion's VibeTonz System, is being offered by MetroPCS. This is the second instance of a U. S. carrier offering a phone with the VibeTonz System's full range of touch sensations for games, ringtones, and user interface features.
MetroPCS provides unlimited local and long distance service for a flat fee, an innovative plan that subscribers across various market segments find attractive, including teens. The n330's sleek and stylish design includes a unique pop-up screen, high-resolution color display, and 15 VibeTonz-enhanced ringers (bells and melodies) that play touch sensations synchronized to the melody, beat, and dynamics of the music. The ringers can be used to personalize service or identify individual callers, features that especially appeal to the youth population.
The phone is also capable of playing downloadable content, including games with touch sensations similar to those in console games -- the feel of acceleration, roughness of off-road terrain, and shock and rumble of explosions.
"Samsung saw the potential early on for the VibeTonz System, as not only a technology innovation but a strong market differentiator," said John Grundy, vice president and general manager, Immersion's Mobility business group. "Their n330 mobile phone is the first to use the VibeTonz System in the U.S., targeting both the youth market -- and dynamic companies like MetroPCS."
