Socket Communications' SD Scan Card Now Supported by SAP NetWeaver® Mobile; Socket's SD Scan Card Series 3 Driver Package Delivered with SAP NetWeaver Mobile for Third-Party Mobile Applications

Business Wire, Sept 27, 2005

NEWARK, Calif. -- Socket Communications, Inc. (Nasdaq:SCKT), an innovative provider of mobile productivity products, today announced the successful delivery of the Socket SD Scan Card Series 3 driver package with the SAP NetWeaver(R) Mobile platform. SAP implemented the driver package in close cooperation with Socket Communications. With the driver package, the Socket SD Scan Card is automatically enabled in any mobile application developed by SAP or other vendors and interfaced to SAP(R) solutions through SAP NetWeaver Mobile to provide mobile professionals an economic alternative to traditional bulky data collection terminals.

"Today, forward-looking organizations are strategically implementing handheld devices to extend the functionality of mission-critical applications to employees wherever and whenever they need it," said Kevin Mills, president and CEO at Socket Communications. "Socket is committed to providing solutions that meet the growing demand among mobile professionals to successfully gather and report critical data using mobile computers and automatic identification technologies. The integration with SAP NetWeaver Mobile enables Socket's scanners to be supported in mobile applications of SAP customers. We are pleased to extend support for the world's smallest high-performance mobile bar code scanner to the community of users of SAP solutions."

The open architecture of the SAP NetWeaver Mobile component allows the integration of third-party software solutions, enabling enterprise customers using SAP solutions to deploy customized mobile solutions. SAP NetWeaver is the open integration and application portal to third-party software applications that share data with the mySAP(TM) ERP solution. The SAP NetWeaver Mobile platform is the technical foundation for enterprise mobility within SAP NetWeaver and includes support for a number of mobile hardware platforms and accessories.

This new interface helps assure customers that Socket's SD Scan Card will function correctly with the mobile applications of SAP software partners on supported device platforms.

The Socket SD Scan Card delivers a new level of affordability and convenience to mobile data collection by combining Socket's Battery Friendly(TM) SDIO technology with the world's smallest bar code scanner. Drawing only 8.0 mA (24.4 mW) in idle mode, the SD Scan Card uses minimal power and operates for hours without having to replace or recharge the PDA battery. If needed, the included SocketScan software sends scanned data directly into any Windows or Palm application as virtual keystrokes without the need for custom programming.
