Business Wire, Sept 7, 2005

HOUSTON -- Anadarko Petroleum Corporation (NYSE:APC) announced today that the company will donate $1 million in aid to assist victims of Hurricane Katrina. The bulk of Anadarko's donation will go to the American Red Cross disaster relief fund and the United Way Katrina Relief Fund.

"The Gulf Coast area has been hit hard by this storm and we are seeing the needs increase everyday as the residents from New Orleans and neighboring states try to rebuild their lives. Houston has taken in a great deal of the hardest hit victims and we know what a strain this is causing our social services system in the city where the majority of our own employees live and work," said Jim Hackett, Anadarko President and CEO. "We want to do what we can to help and we believe this corporate donation, coupled with our matching dollars for employee contributions, will help bring immediate relief to the agencies and volunteers who are providing vital services to those in need."

Anadarko employees are able to make donations directly to the Red Cross and the company has a matching program. Employees are also volunteering at numerous organizations across the greater Houston area and the company has organized food and supply drives to local food banks and shelters.

Anadarko Petroleum Corporation's mission is to deliver a competitive and sustainable rate of return to shareholders by developing, acquiring and exploring for oil and gas resources vital to the world's health and welfare.
