RCN Connects Several NYU Dorms to Cable & MegaModem Mach 10; Students Get Fastest Residential Internet Connection in the Market; Three-Year Contract With New York University Announced

Business Wire, Sept 7, 2005

HERNDON, Va. -- RCN Corporation (NASDAQ: RCNI), today announced a three-year contract with New York University to deliver cable TV and RCN's MegaModem Mach 10 internet connections to several student dorm facilities.

RCN's MegaModem Mach 10, which delivers 10Mbps downstream speeds and 800k upstream, is the fastest residential cable modem connection to the internet you can get today in New York City.

"While RCN has been providing cable, internet and telephone service to NYU for some time, this deal makes it even easier for NYU to provide the best service to its students in New York City. NYU prides itself on being one of the world's leading research and teaching centers and we are pleased to deliver products and services that allow them to remain on the cutting edge," said PK Ramani, RCN's SVP & New York General Manager.

In addition, Ramani said, "Working with only one service provider greatly simplifies the process of move in/move outs for both students and NYU's administration. RCN's proven reliability, state-of-the-art technology, and high-quality service makes us an excellent choice to provide these services."

Rates for service are included in the fees students pay directly to NYU. Students can add additional services, like premium channels, digital box, and Video on Demand.

"We're pleased to have this opportunity to expand our services within NYU," added RCN President & CEO Peter Aquino. "We are also very interested in providing cable, high-speed internet and phone services for other institutions of higher learning, schools, hotels, as well as large and small businesses."
