Digeo™ Showcases Acclaimed Moxi™ TV Interface on Widest Range of OCAP Platforms at NCTA; Cable Industry's Most Broadly Deployed Multi-room DVR Solution, Added Storage Capacity and Other Key Features Round out NCTA Presence
Business Wire, April 10, 2006
ATLANTA -- Digeo, Inc. is showcasing its Emmy(R) Award-winning TV interface on five OCAP hardware platforms at the National Cable and Telecommunications Association's 2006 National Show being held this week at the Georgia World Congress Center in Atlanta. The company is also highlighting the multi-room version of the Moxi(TM) Media Center - the industry's most widely deployed multi-room DVR solution - and previewing a variety of upcoming product enhancements that will further cement the Moxi Media Center's position as a hub for whole-home distribution of digital entertainment. These include an external drive for added storage capacity, on-screen telephone features and access to PC-based MP3 music and photo libraries. With more than 325,000 units deployed over the last two years, the Moxi Media Center has proven to be a sound investment for cable operators and extremely popular with cable subscribers.
"As cable operators move forward with their OCAP deployment plans, we are readying OCAP-compatible versions of the Moxi TV interface and applications," said Mike Fidler, CEO of Digeo, Inc. "Our support for OCAP means cable operators will have added flexibility and can realize the revenue and customer loyalty benefits of deploying Moxi on the hardware platform of their choice."
Moxi Media Centers have been deployed in nearly 100 markets nationwide by seven cable operators. In a comprehensive study lasting more than 11 months and covering more than 600,000 cable DVR subscribers who have either Moxi or another cable DVR, the Moxi Media Center was proven to generate more revenue and improve customer loyalty compared to other cable DVRs:
--Up to $10 more in monthly subscriber fees for multi-room service over single-room service
--Up to $5 more in monthly subscriber fees for the superior consumer experience and entertainment applications (casual games, photos and MP3 jukebox)
--A customer churn rate twenty-five percent lower than other cable DVRs
Greatest Number of OCAP Demonstrations at NCTA
In its booth, Digeo is demonstrating the Moxi Menu and Guide on five OCAP hardware platforms, including the world's first interactive HDTV from Samsung and set-top boxes from ADB, Pace, and Thomson. Moxi on OCAP can also be seen in several other locations throughout NCTA, including other exhibitor booths from Pace, Vidiom Systems and NDS; and at CableNET, where Samsung and NDS will be showcasing Moxi on their OCAP hardware platforms.
Most Broadly Deployed Multi-room DVR with the Highest Level of Second-room Functionality
Digeo is also highlighting the multi-room Moxi Media Center, which has been deployed by six cable operators in multiple markets nationwide. Compared to other cable DVRs, the Moxi Media Center delivers the highest level of DVR functionality to two televisions within the home, including the ability to:
--Pause and record live TV in either room
--Schedule and manage recordings in either room
--Share video, photos and MP3 music files between both rooms
--Manage viewing in either room with independent controls
It is also the first cable DVR with a built-in DVD player, eliminating the need for a stand-alone DVD player and remote. DVD content is shared between the two rooms, allowing viewers to start watching a DVD in one room and finish in the other. The multi-room solution networks the main unit to a $79 extension box using existing coaxial cable wiring. Known as the Moxi Mate(TM), the extension box is priced hundreds of dollars less than competing boxes, making the multi-room Moxi Media Center one of the lowest cost-per-room DVR solutions on the market.
Upcoming Features to Further Enhance the Consumer Experience for Cable Subscribers
Digeo is previewing several features that will be available in upcoming releases, including:
--USB-connected storage drive - as more high-definition content becomes available, consumers are looking for greater storage capacity. Subscribers will be able to purchase off-the-shelf hard disk drives and connect them to the Moxi Media Center through a USB 2.0 port
--On-screen telephone features - subscribers will have on-screen caller ID and message waiting notifications, along with the ability to listen and manage voicemail messages. No in-home equipment or special wiring will be required to activate the feature.
--Integration with PC-based photo and music libraries - subscribers will be able to access existing photo and MP3 music files on their PCs and enjoy them on their television.
"Of all the differentiators in the market today, only the consumer experience is sustainable for any significant length of time," said Fidler. "For cable's high-end subscribers, it's especially important because they are the most heavily targeted and highly vulnerable to offers from satellite and telco operators. Those customers are the ones for which Moxi is ideally suited. We go beyond a 'good-enough' DVR to offer the premium experience that cable's most profitable customers are willing to pay for."
