Mimosa Systems Accelerates Migration from Microsoft Exchange Server 5.5; Mimosa NearPoint Reduces Risk and Enables Rapid, Trouble-Free Migration from Exchange Server 5.5 to Exchange Server 2003
Business Wire, April 10, 2006
SANTA CLARA, Calif. -- Mimosa Systems(TM), a leader in unified information management solutions, today announced NearPoint(TM) for Microsoft(R) Exchange Server adds migration capabilities for Microsoft Exchange Server 5.5 to manage the transition from Exchange Server 5.5 to Exchange 2000 Server or Exchange Server 2003. This new functionality helps solve critical issues users of Exchange Server 5.5 have around the length of time required and the potential of data loss when moving from one Exchange platform to the next. Mimosa NearPoint's migration capabilities removes the risk and speeds the migration process, while also offering continued access to critical historical email information by end users.
"Organizations that use Exchange 5.5 haven't been able to take advantage of Mimosa NearPoint until now. With NearPoint's new support for Exchange 5.5 servers, companies still on 5.5 can move their data to a stable archiving system and protect their data. At the same time it smoothes the migration process. This is a smart approach, and I expect it to be popular with the market," said Paul Robichaux, a partner and senior analyst, 3Sharp and a Microsoft MVP for Exchange.
The migration capabilities for Exchange Server 5.5 are a standard Mimosa NearPoint(TM) feature, adding to its unified archiving, recovery and storage management capabilities. The migration feature offers users of Exchange Server 5.5 the following benefits:
--Fast Migration: Administrators can empty Exchange Server 5.5 mailboxes prior to migrating to newer versions of Exchange, thus drastically reducing the amount of data to be migrated and significantly decreasing the time to complete the migration process.
--Reduced Risk: Mimosa NearPoint archives all email information from the Exchange 5.5 server to the NearPoint archive, at which point Exchange Server administrators can validate the capture of all Exchange Server 5.5 information in the archive prior to the migration. This eliminates the potential loss of mission-critical email information.
--Combined Information Access: Legacy Exchange Server 5.5 information and Exchange Server 2003 information are managed together in a unified, consistent manner by Mimosa NearPoint.
--Unified Self-Service: End users enjoy NearPoint Self-Service Access to both legacy Exchange Server 5.5 email information (including messages, attachments, calendars, contacts, and tasks) and new Exchange Server 2003 data and .PST files (leveraging the .PST Archive Option), allowing for single unified searches across all information types. Users can also selectively restore Exchange Server 5.5 data to their new Exchange Server 2003 mailbox.
"Mimosa has taken a unique approach with its new migration functionality for Exchange Server 5.5," said Donna Conner, Group Product Manager at Microsoft Corp. "NearPoint for Exchange Server will help provide a quick and easy solution for IT Administrators to move their users to Exchanger Server 2003 allowing them to take advantage of its advanced capabilities."
