MXI Security Selects UPEK Technology; UPEK Fingerprint Authentication Technology Integrated in MXI Security's New MXP Product Family of USB-Based Portable Security Devices
Business Wire, April 17, 2006
BERKELEY, Calif. -- UPEK(R), Inc., the leading brand for fingerprint authentication solutions, today announced that its biometric technology has been used by MXI Security(TM) in its new MXP product family. MXI Security's new offering combines UPEK's biometric technology with digital credentials and passwords to provide three factor authentication designed to combine the power of secure storage with digital identity, cryptography, and strong authentication services. UPEK's fingerprint authentication solution verifies users to protect digital assets and provide authorized users with a convenient way to access local and network data.
"This technology is a significant part of the trend from simple flash drives and portable hard drives towards smart digital credential devices," said Sally Hudson, analyst at IDC. "Corporations and government entities are requiring a more reliable means of authentication for mobile employees to protect data easily transferred onto portable devices. Biometric authentication is evolving as a viable solution for linking digital identities with the unique individuals, especially in mobile situations."
"Biometric technology is a key part of our MXP portable security device family," said Lawrence Reusing, CEO of MXI Security. "It can be difficult to discern claims about biometrics regarding security, biometric performance and ruggedness, but UPEK continues to deliver reliable technology and secure architectures that our enterprise and government customers demand."
"We are excited to continue working with MXI Security to develop products that make management of digital identities more secure and convenient," said Greg Goelz, VP marketing at UPEK, Inc. "MXI Security continues to pioneer portable security devices based on corporate and government market needs, and we are proud to enable a means of secure authentication for these markets."
MXP portable security devices address government and enterprise specific security and privacy requirements while simplifying identity management to meet strong authentication, single sign on, PKI, and remote access needs. The MXP product family offers four devices -- Outbacker MXP(TM) (USB portable hard drive, digital identities and three factor authentication), Stealth MXP(TM) (USB flash drive, digital identities, three factor authentication), Stealth MXP(TM) BioToken (USB flash form factor with digital identities, three factor authentication) and Stealth MXP(TM) Token (USB form factor flash drive with digital identities, two factor authentication).
