Business Wire, April 18, 2006
BELLEVUE, Wash. -- The student SIFE team from Bellevue-based City University was the overall league champion, and walked away with first place in five of the six categories at the regional SIFE competition held recently in Seattle, Wash. City University's team placed ahead of past champion Washington State University, and other institutions such as Montana State University, Eastern Oregon University, and Concordia University, Portland, Ore. The City University SIFE team will be the only Western Washington team to advance to the national competition, May 21, 2006, in Kansas City, MO.
Dr. Thomas Dukes, Dean of the School of Management, comments, "SIFE provides an opportunity for students of all backgrounds to make a real difference in the lives of others." Dukes continues, "The combination of internal support from an academic environment, and external support from community business leaders, allows the students to apply real world business applications to their projects."
Bryan Tomlinson, Director, English Language Programs and Latin American, City University adds, "The diversity of their skills and backgrounds is unparalleled nationally, which is their greatest strength."
The diverse SIFE team is comprised of undergraduate juniors and seniors, and first and second year graduate students from Chili, Japan, Columbia, Bulgaria, Venezuela, India, Indonesia, Taiwan, and Mexico. During the competition, the team presented projects completed throughout the year in Bulgaria, India, Mexico and Washington State.
