JDA Software Chairs Consortium Focused on Demand Chain Optimization; Capgemini, Hewlett-Packard, Intel, JDA and Microsoft Join JDA Customers to Define and Validate Profit Potential of Next-Generation Solutions

Business Wire, April 27, 2006

SCOTTSDALE, Ariz. -- JDA(R) Software Group Inc. (Nasdaq: JDAS) announced that it will chair the newly formed Demand Optimization Council (DOC), a global consortium committed to identifying and researching advance science and profitable practices to influence next-generation demand chain management solutions. In the first quarter 2006, leaders in retail, wholesale and distribution joined JDA and DOC sponsors Capgemini, Hewlett-Packard, Intel and Microsoft for the inaugural DOC meeting. Together with JDA Chief Science Advisor Steve Graves, Ph.D., an MIT Sloan School of Management professor, participants prioritized 2006 initiatives based on the level of growth, revenue and business execution improvements each could deliver. E[acute accent]According to David J. Johnston, JDA's vice president of replenishment and allocation solutions, JDA initiated the DOC to partner with its customers and business alliances to identify the most pressing real-world opportunities in the demand chain that will generate the greatest value and return on investment for its customers. Executives from Ace Hardware Corp., Casino Group, Corporate Express, Grupo Elektra, Henkel Consumer Adhesives, Henry Schein Inc., Maurice Sporting Goods, Meijer and Rite Aid Corp. have joined the DOC. A prime reason that these JDA customers joined was to influence the strategic direction of the JDA Portfolio(R) demand chain products that support their companies. E[acute accent]"Driving profits and delivering excellent customer service requires maintaining optimum inventory levels throughout the demand chain. Retailers, manufacturers and wholesale-distributors are looking to more accurately predict their customers' product preferences while migrating to more complex distribution and delivery methods," said Johnston. "While today's technologies have improved and automated our customers' ability to execute on these changes, the next generation of solutions need to take them further, faster."

E[acute accent]DOC Tackles Optimizing Promotions, Safety Stock, Product Flow

E[acute accent]With the goal of influencing future solution design, the DOC will validate the potential of advanced science and profitable practices in an academic research environment using actual customer data from DOC members. They will initially focus on developing advanced methods for:

E[acute accent]--Profitably predicting and managing promotions.

E[acute accent]--Determining the level and placement of safety stock at all points in an enterprise.

E[acute accent]--Optimizing the flow of products throughout a complex distribution network.

E[acute accent]Commenting on the importance of these key areas, Brian Girouard, Capgemini's Global Consumer Products & Retail Segment leader, said, "It was refreshing to witness the level of collaboration exhibited in the inaugural session of the DOC. From the start, the intent was for retailers, distributors and manufacturers to jointly discover better approaches to predicting and handling the effects of variable demand. These executives are highly motivated to see the ideas generated by this Council embedded into future releases of the JDA offerings."

E[acute accent]DOC Members Gain Value from First Session

E[acute accent]The first meeting was held at the Accelerated Solutions Environment(R) center at Capgemini's facilities in Cambridge, Mass. DOC participants commented on the value of sharing different views on improving demand forecasting and other processes in an environment conducive to frank discussion. E[acute accent]"I am pleased that we were able to clearly define the Council's structure and business model," said Paul Hanko, vice president, supply chain for Rite Aid. "I found it valuable that the DOC's initial direction was defined in such a unique, collaborative environment that challenged all of us to expand our thinking and consider new opportunities."
