PALO ALTO, Calif. & LAS VEGAS -- Bottomley to discuss promise of virtualization with XenSource CTO Simon Crosby and Nemertes Research Analyst Andreas Antonopoulos

Dr. James Bottomley, Chief Technology Officer of SteelEye Technology, Inc., the leading provider of data and application availability management solutions for business continuity and disaster recovery on Linux and Windows, will speak on Sunday, April 30 at 9:15 AM at the Interop 2006 Conference held at the Mandalay Bay Convention Center in Las Vegas. Focusing on the white-hot trend of server virtualization, Bottomley will be joined by XenSource CTO for a discussion moderated by Andreas Antonopolous, a senior vice president of Nemertes Research immediately after Antonopolous' keynote address.

The session, entitled "Server Consolidation with Virtual Machines" will detail how virtualization can help companies consolidate servers and increase utilization, saving potentially millions of dollars by postponing server purchases. In addition, Bottomley will add specific focus on the important and often-overlooked dimension of assuring high-availability in virtual environments.

As CTO of SteelEye, Bottomley provides the technical strategic vision for SteelEye's future products and research programs. Bottomley is a key leader among the Linux development community, both as the Maintainer of the Linux SCSI Kernel, and also as an elected member to the board of directors of the Open Source Development Labs (OSDL), a global consortium dedicated to accelerating the adoption of Linux(R). He has 12 years of prior experience both in academia as well as with commercial enterprises such as AT&T, Bell Labs and NCR, and holds an MA and a PhD from Cambridge University.

SteelEye's flagship product, LifeKeeper, provides LAN and WAN-based, end-to-end protection of critical resources and enables companies of all sizes to ensure continuous availability of business-critical applications, servers and data. Viewed by industry experts as best in class, the product most recently garnered LinuxWorld's 2005 Product Excellence Award for Best Clustering Solution.

At the recent LinuxWorld-Boston conference, SteelEye demonstrated its new solution for providing monitoring and failover for virtual machines running VMWare ESX Server. LifeKeeper provides high availability clustering and disaster recovery for both physical and virtual machine environments.
