Direct 2 Mobile Selects Cantata Technology's Brooktrout TR1000 for Microsoft Speech Server to Launch Cutting Edge Consumer Application; Brooktrout TR1000 Offers Rapid Prototype and Production for Multimodal Application
Business Wire, April 4, 2006
NEEDHAM, Mass. -- Cantata Technology(TM), the world's leading independent provider of enabling communications technology, established through the combination of Excel Switching Corporation and Brooktrout Technology, announced today that Direct 2 Mobile (d2m) Marketing (www.d2mm.com) has selected Cantata's Brooktrout TR1000(TM) for Microsoft Speech Server to launch its real-time mobile marketing solution.
d2m allows retail shoppers to receive promotions to their cell phones while they are in a store, providing a real-time marketing tool for retailers. Consumers can dial into the d2m system and speak the name of the store where they are located. The system validates the account via caller-ID and uses speech recognition to identify the store. The application then sends a Short Message Service (SMS) to the consumer's cell phone with specific promotions and offers available in that store.
d2m built its initial prototype with the Brooktrout TR1000 for Microsoft Speech Server starter kit which had everything it needed in a single package. The starter kit included a four-port analog telephony card, Windows-certified drivers, Telephony Interface Manager (TIM) and an evaluation copy of Microsoft Speech Server 2004 R2. Once the application was completed, it converted the prototype to a multi-span T1 production system. Cantata(TM) is the only vendor to offer a telephony platform built specifically for Microsoft Speech Server.
"We were impressed with the design of the Brooktrout TR1000 for Microsoft Speech Server because it let us quickly build a prototype," said Greg Prescott, chief executive officer, Direct 2 Mobile Marketing. "We were able to convert the prototype to a production system with no changes to the drivers or TIM, which is a unique feature of the Cantata solution."
d2m was able to leverage its Microsoft ASP.NET experience to rapidly build a multimodal application which uses DTMF, speech recognition and SMS technologies. "With Speech Server we could use our in-house expertise to develop the application with familiar Visual Studio .NET development tools," Prescott said.
"Microsoft Speech Server provides companies like d2m with the opportunity to design speech-enabled applications that create unique experiences for shoppers," said Clint Patterson, director of product management for Microsoft Speech Server. "d2m's application is a cutting-edge example of how retailers can satisfy the expectations of today's savvy consumer without driving up overhead costs."
"We are excited about our partnership with d2m and the work that both of us have embarked upon with Microsoft," stated Scott Wieder, director of market development, Cantata Technology. "d2m has created an application that helps connect customers with retailers in a unique way that can streamline operations, simplify purchasing and lower costs."
