L-3 Communications' SPD Electrical Systems, Inc. Granted Listing on the U.S. Navy's Qualified Products List for the ACB-2012 Shock Hardened Magnum Circuit Breaker
Business Wire, April 4, 2006
NEW YORK -- L-3 Communications (NYSE: LLL) announced today that its SPD Electrical Systems (SPD) subsidiary, a unit of L-3's Power and Control Systems Group, has been granted listing on the U.S. Navy's Qualified Products List (QPL) for its Shock Hardened Magnum Circuit Breaker. This circuit breaker, identified as the ACB-2012 with a nominal rating of 450 Volts and 2,000 Amps, underwent significant design modifications, rigorous testing to U.S. Navy standards, and passed the review of the U.S. Navy's own expert evaluators to achieve this notable milestone.
"To fill a gap in the U.S. Navy's low voltage circuit breaker market, SPD elected to invest in the development of this new product," said Jay Wilcox, president of SPD. "We hope to see new ships, such as the LHA-6, immediately embrace the ACB-2012. The new aircraft carrier, CVN-78, has also identified needs for a 450V, 2,000A shock hardened breaker. We have taken a long term view in the design and support of this breaker and anticipate the U.S. Navy will take a similar view through long-term usage of the product."
Located in Philadelphia, SPD Electrical Systems is the world's leading supplier of shock-hardened circuit breakers and switchgear used aboard U.S. Navy vessels, and has supported every major U.S. Navy shipbuilding program.
