NTT DoCoMo's FlashCast Based i-channel Service Passes Two Million Subscriber Mark; Flash Technology From Adobe Powers Japan's Fastest Growing News and Information Service for Mobile Phones

Business Wire, April 5, 2006

SAN JOSE, Calif. -- Adobe Systems Incorporated (Nasdaq:ADBE) today announced that more than two million mobile phone subscribers have signed up for NTT DoCoMo's i-channel(TM) news and information delivery service since it was launched in Japan last September. i-channel is powered by Macromedia(R) FlashCast(TM) technology from Adobe, a client-server solution that effectively delivers rich data experiences to mobile devices. With NTT DoCoMo's service, subscribers automatically receive five base channels for content such as news, weather, entertainment reports, sports news and horoscopes and are alerted to channel updates via telop text running across the standby screens of their mobile phone. In addition, subscribers can choose from a variety of optional channels provided by content providers.

"NTT DoCoMo has been a leader in rolling out innovative services that have moved the mobile industry forward, and i-channel is a great example of their continued push for excellence," said Al Ramadan, senior vice president of Mobile and Device Solutions at Adobe. "Our Flash technology has helped NTT DoCoMo make the mobile phone an even more indispensable part of Japan's connected mobile lifestyle."

By pushing the i-channel button on a NTT DoCoMo mobile phone, a channel list appears instantaneously from which the user can easily select the content they want to view. The service costs 150 Yen (approximately $1.30) per month and today customers range from traditional early adopters, such as young males, through to middle aged consumers who are being attracted to the services by the easy to navigate, visually rich user interface.

"We have been astonished by the unprecedented success of i-channel, which proves that consumers embrace data services when they are automatically delivered and presented in a compelling and interactive way," said Takeshi Natsuno, senior vice president at NTT DoCoMo. "Partnering with Adobe, we've been able to develop a great service that showcases the creativity of thousands of NTT DoCoMo content developers while leveraging the power of our network infrastructure."

Flash technology enables operators, OEMs, consumer electronics device manufacturers and content providers to offer rich, customizable user interfaces, while delivering more consistent consumer experiences across devices, operating systems, processors and screen sizes. By leveraging the Flash ecosystem -- which includes the Flash authoring tool, Flash Lite(TM) player runtime and an established community of more than one million designers and developers -- Flash Lite can reduce deployment costs and deliver content and interfaces three to five times faster than competing solutions. Today more than 65 million Flash technology-enabled devices have shipped worldwide.
