Network Computing Magazine Awards ScriptLogic Editor's Choice Award for Desktop Management; ScriptLogic's Desktop Authority Wins Comparative Review for Usability, Patch Management and User Support Features
Business Wire, April 5, 2006
BOCA RATON, Fla. -- ScriptLogic(R) Corporation (www.scriptlogic.com), a leader in network administration software for Microsoft(R) Windows(R)-based networks, today announced that CMP Media LLC's Network Computing magazine has awarded ScriptLogic's Desktop Authority an "Editor's Choice" award, based on the product performing best in the publication's most recent comparative review of desktop management suites, which appeared in the March 29, 2006 issue.
In the review, titled "Affordable IT: Desktop Management Suites," the magazine praises ScriptLogic for Desktop Authority's usability, patch management and technical support: "We gave Editor's Choice to ScriptLogic's Desktop Authority. This product has some of the best vulnerability-management features we've ever seen in a desktop-management suite, extensive access control, remote control, tech support and a simple user interface." The Network Computing review also states, "The rich security and policy-enforcement features blew us away."
For the review, Network Computing invited 17 desktop management vendors to send their offerings to the publication's Syracuse University Real-World Labs(R). Each participant was required to perform inventory scanning, software distribution, software-license monitoring and patch management for $30,000 or less.
"Network Computing operates one of the most respected and demanding publication testing labs, and the publication tries to emulate a real-world environment," said Jason Judge, CEO of ScriptLogic. "Therefore, this 'Editor's Choice' award validates that our solution can effectively meet the desktop management requirements faced by companies today. It is third-party confirmation that our more than 16,000 customers have picked the most feature-rich, value-packed solution on the market."
The Network Computing labs teams tested each application on a fictitious midsize business, dubbed Last Spike Enterprises. The labs teams focused on a variety of desktop management functions such as desktop configuration, application deployment and remote control. All the reviews were conducted by experienced IT professionals.
The magazine praised ScriptLogic in several areas:
--Providing comprehensive security controls-- The review said: "ScriptLogic's Desktop Authority was tops at controlling security settings. We could perform tasks such as disabling the USB devices for a user, adjusting the Windows Firewall setting and hiding control panels. We especially liked how the management console integrated the setup and control of Active Directory Group Policy Objects."
--Performing patch- and vulnerability-management-- "Desktop Authority also had the best patch- and vulnerability-management features we've ever seen in a desktop-management suite, large or small," the article noted.
--Summarizing system information for tech support-- The review continued: "After logging into a client machine for remote maintenance, we were greeted by a screen showing the patches installed, OS details, system stats, performance graphs and the event log. This summary information would be perfect for a user working with tech support."
A number of desktop management vendors including Altiris (ATRS), LANDesk, BMC (BMC) and Novell (NOVL) declined to participate in the review because their solutions were too expensive to meet the review's feature requirements, according to the article. CA (CA) declined their invitation because their product was between release cycles.
ScriptLogic Corporation has won 11 awards in the past 12 months. These include recognition by Deloitte as the fastest growing technology company in the Southeast United States and 15th fastest growing technology company in North America, inclusion in Inc. magazine's ranking of the fastest growing privately held companies in America for the second consecutive year, as well as two 2005 Redmond Reader's Choice Awards from the readers of Redmond magazine ("Best Network Automation Tool" and "Best Scripting Tool" categories).
