Orthogon Systems Named Runner-up in Prestigious Wireless Innovation Contest at CTIA Wireless 2006

Business Wire, April 5, 2006

LAS VEGAS -- Orthogon Systems, a leading provider of fixed wireless solutions for reliable connectivity in difficult environments, today announced that its innovative deployment at Aquarius Undersea Research Laboratory (Aquarius) has been chosen as runner-up in the "Taking Care of Business/Public Sector" category for the 2006 Wireless Innovation Contest (WIC'06), an awards program sponsored by the Wireless Innovation Network Society of British Columbia now in its third year. Orthogon Systems and its Aquarius implementation stood out among the many submissions from all over the U.S. and Canada because it demonstrated real world wireless excellence and showcased an innovative implementation by way of a powerful solution that's also easy to deploy and manage.

Orthogon's OS-Gemini point-to-point broadband wireless solution was deployed at Aquarius to establish a reliable wireless connection between the lab at the bottom of the ocean and its land-based office more than 10 miles away. The solution withstood tremendous challenges, such as rough seas, great distances and unpredictable weather, yet still enabled Aquarius to communicate to its land-based office in ways that previously had never before been possible. WIC'06 and its panel of judges recognized that Orthogon is making a difference to tear down barriers that have traditionally impeded rapid market adoption.

"We are thrilled to be named runner-up in an award that emphasizes the importance of wireless adoption and innovation," said Phil Bolt, president and CEO, Orthogon Systems. "Receiving this level of recognition for our work with Aquarius truly affirms our corporate vision of making wireless possible in some of the most challenging environments in the world."

This year's winners were selected by an elite panel of judges, including Tom Nyberg (Nokia), Chris Langdon (TELUS), Ray Gilbert (Lucent Technologies), Michael Calyniuk (PricewaterhouseCoopers), Oliver Starr (Angel Strategies and Foldera), Bill Ray (ARC Chart and Wireless Business & Technology), Dan Koeppel (Verizon Communications), Lee Hancock (Go2), Gummi Hafsteinsson (Google) and Chris Shipley (DEMO Conferences and Guidewire Group).

"We set out to find companies that prove wireless adoption is changing peoples' lives," said Sang Mah, president of WINBC. "This year's winners are doing just that in some of the most innovative applications of wireless technologies we've seen to date."

All WIC'06 winners and runners-up were honored at an awards ceremony today at CTIA WIRELESS 2006 in Las Vegas from 11:45 am - 12:30 p.m. PDT at the MEX Stage (CTIA Fashion Show Stage) in the Mobile Entertainment Expo, CTIA Exhibit Floor (Hall C4). Guests included luminaries from the investment community, telecommunications industry, government sector as well as members of the analyst and media communities.
