More Info: Jackson, industry leader in collector car auctions, was the highest bidder and auction winner on Friday, July 28, 2006, of an exceptionally rare guitar that music legend Sir Paul learned to play on, a REX acoustic circa 1950s. Owned by Ian James, a Liverpool Institute grammar school friend of Sir Paul's, the guitar fetched GBP 329,350 (USD 633,438.86) including all fees at the Cooper Owen Music Legends Auction at the famed Abbey Road Studios in London.

In a statement issued by Louise B. Cooper, founder and creative director of Cooper Owen, and John Collins, managing director of Cooper Owen: "Cooper Owen is delighted that the guitar is going to a collector who truly appreciates the historical value of such an important guitar that changed music history. Without this guitar, there might never have been the Beatles as we know them."

Jackson will be available for interviews following the unveiling of the guitar and all accompanying documentation, including a rare signed letter of authenticity from Sir Paul.
