EnterpriseDB Announces General Availability of Advanced Server 8.1 Release 2; Automated Database Migration From Oracle to EnterpriseDB Tops List of Significant Upgrades

SAN FRANCISCO -- EnterpriseDB, the world's leading enterprise-class, open source database company, announced today the general availability of EnterpriseDB Advanced Server 8.1 Release 2. EnterpriseDB Advanced Server is an enterprise-class relational database management system that runs applications written for Oracle databases. The latest release features automated migration of data and business logic from Oracle databases to EnterpriseDB Advanced Server, integrated Oracle database browsing, sophisticated security features and other enhancements to the EnterpriseDB Database Server, and new tools for developers and DBAs. EnterpriseDB Advanced Server 8.1 Release 2 offers both graphical and command-line tools for the automated migration of data and business logic from Oracle databases to EnterpriseDB. In addition, users of the GUI-based EnterpriseDB Developer Studio now have the ability to browse the contents of Oracle databases alongside EnterpriseDB and PostgreSQL databases.
EnterpriseDB separately announced today the availability of EnterpriseDB Replication Server, which replicates data across the enterprise in near real time to meet a wide array of business challenges, and EnterpriseDB Network, a service that includes real-time notification and delivery of product updates and patches and access to advanced EnterpriseDB product features, online forums, and enhanced product documentation.
The latest general availability release includes four significant enhancements to EnterpriseDB Database Server:
--Dynatune(TM), which automatically tunes the database based on a user-supplied usage model
--Auditing capabilities to assist with regulatory compliance
--Advanced security features, including support for SSL and Kerberos cryptography
--XML support
Finally, the EnterpriseDB Advanced Server product suite includes two new state-of-the-art DBA and developer tools:
--An improved interactive debugger that supports Oracle packages and the industry's first real-time, in-context debugging
--A SQL query profiler for analyzing and tuning database queries for speed and efficiency
