Business Wire, August 15, 2006
LINDAU, Germany -- The Spokesman of the Board of Management of SAP AG, Prof. Henning Kagermann, and the General Manager of the Bank for International Settlement in Basel, Dr. Malcolm Knight, are to become new members of the Honorary Senate of the Foundation of Nobel Laureate Meetings in Lindau. Countess Sonja Bernadotte, president of the Council for the Lindau Nobel Laureate Meetings, will present the honours during the official opening of the Second Meeting of the Holders of the Prize in Economic Sciences, awarded by the Bank of Sweden in memory of Alfred Nobel, to be held in Lindau on August 17th, 2006. The award ceremony will be attended by the German president, Horst Kohler. The accolade for Prof. Kagermann and Dr. Knight is in recognition of their efforts in developing the Lindau dialogue into a global platform of exchange between the leading scientific authorities of today and the elite of tomorrow.
The commitment shown by SAP AG to the Lindau Nobel Laureate meetings extends far beyond making donations to the foundation. It is a reflection of a corporate philosophy that acknowledges the outstanding status of innovation, thereby motivating the young scientists of tomorrow in their own work and demonstrating the future prospects of their scientific exertions. In admitting Prof. Kagermann to the Honorary Senate of the Foundation of Nobel Laureate Meetings in Lindau, it is honouring the extraordinary personal commitment shown by the SAP management board spokesman on behalf of the Nobel Laureate meetings.
As General Manager of the Bank for International Settlement, Dr. Malcolm Knight has been making a personal contribution to the scientific excellence and internationalism of the Meeting of Holders of the Prize in Economic Sciences since its inauguration in 2004. He has worked hard at utilising the working relationship between the bank and the major national banks to nominate promising young economists from these institutes to attend the meetings on Lake Constance.
Members of the Honorary Senate include former German president Professor Roman Herzog, the Bavarian minister-president Dr. Edmund Stoiber, Professor Joachim Milberg (chairman of the administrative board of BMW AG and president of Acatech), the president of the German Research Community Professor Ernst-Ludwig Winnacker, Dr. Daniel Vasella (president and delegate of the supervisory board of Novartis AG) and Ernesto Bertarelli (president and delegate of the administrative board of Serono International S.A.), as well as the former minister-president of Baden-Wurttemberg, Erwin Teufel.
