United Devices Says Grid Plays Prominent Role in Virtualizing Business Applications; GridWorld Talk Outlines Automatic Provisioning of Virtual Infrastructures

Business Wire, August 17, 2006

WASHINGTON, D.C. -- United Devices Chief Technology Officer Jikku Venkat will describe during a session at GridWorld 2006 how grid management capabilities are being used to automatically provision virtual infrastructures in data centers, thereby improving processing of critical business applications.

Dr. Venkat explains that enterprise software applications like SAP, Siebel and others that traditionally run on a fixed, static infrastructure are implicitly constrained -- adjustments must be made manually and can take months to complete, thus limiting the ability of IT organizations to react to changing business needs. Clearly, management of such environments is very expensive and a significant contributor to application total cost of ownership (TCO).

By contrast, says Venkat, "Modern grid-managed infrastructures are flexible, dynamic, and extremely cost-effective. IT managers thus have an unprecedented ability to make rapid infrastructure adjustments in response to application demand fluctuations and to optimize loads on their existing multi-vendor IT assets.

"High Performance Computing (HPC) grid providers like United Devices are uniquely positioned to solve the infrastructure issues associated with virtualizing enterprise software applications," says Venkat. "Our solutions are proven at scale in HPC environments, and customers now want to leverage these capabilities to drive significant costs out of data center operation."

Dr. Venkat's presentation will detail how IT executives are applying grid capabilities to mainstream computing operations. The presentation will include examples of how United Devices customers are using grid management solutions to automate server virtualization and speed consolidation, in order to streamline operations and reduce TCO for data center owners.

Dr. Venkat's talk will be open to conference attendees at 4 p.m. on Tuesday, Sept. 12, in room 154A of the Washington Convention Center.

To get started, you need to know what you really want from work, then orient your political moves toward those goals. It all starts with strong relationships and helping others; those people in return make up the support system that helps you realize your goals. Here’s how it’s done.
